Terrible, terrible morning. :(

One of my cats fell in our pool this morning. When I pulled her out she was alive but had obviously given up struggling. I have no idea how long she was in there and I feel so awful about it. I wrapped her in towels, tried to warm her up then rushed her to the vet immediately and she was admitted into critical care.

She's conscious but not aware, suffering from severe hypothermia and they are concerned about secondary drowning.

She's 14 years old, diabetic (she gets insulin 2x a day) and has a heart murmur so I'm really nervous that she's not strong enough to get through this. sad

I know she's just a sick old cat to most people, but she's part of our family and we really do not want to lose her.

I wanted to post her picture but I don't have any on my laptop and my pc is in storage....but she's an amazing looking cat - one side of her face is grey, the other side is beige. , split right down the middle...it's really striking.

I'm not looking forward to telling my son what happened when he gets home from school. sad

I can't get over the guilt of not knowing that she fell in until it was almost too late.

Thanks guys. hug

She looks very simular to this cat...and as soon as she's better (fingers and toes crossed) I'll take some new pics of her.

It's horrible to think about her struggling for her life in that fucking stupid pool...and we were closing it down this weekend, I wish we did it last weekend. sad

Oh honey! sad hug hug

Anyone who would think of her as just a sick old cat is an idiot. That's like saying eh, she's just a sick old grandma (or whatever). Pets are family.

I know.

Her care for today and tomorrow is already costing $950...but what can we do? Say forget it, leave her? We love our pets (have 2 dogs and 3 cats). I can't imagine not trying to save her.

Awe, this is very sad. Sorry to hear it. I love cats too. I had a blue point himalayan for 18 years and had to put him down a few years back and it broke my heart. I hope she survives and gets as well as possible. Stay strong and don't feel guilty.

I know all about it (the costs). I assume she had quality of life in spite of her diabetes and murmur, so yeah, I would try and save her too. The only way we ever put our pets down is when they no longer have quality of life, never on cost. We'll go without for a while if we have to.

Maybe she didn't fall accidentally after all.

She might have tried to commit suicide shrug

Yes, actually I had my friend (who is a vet) over last week to take a look at her and she is doing well considering all her conditions.

You know, the most touching part of this story is that when I got her in the house and was sitting with her warming her in the towel, my frail, 14 year old German Short-haired Pointer was so concerned and kept putting her face gently on Gemini's (the cats's name - we call her Gemmy) head. Like she was trying to help, like she felt sad.

I'm sorry...I love my animals and they are all getting so old. It's so hard. sad

We actually thought maybe something happened health wise that caused her to fall in, but we now think that she attempted to walk across the pole of our skimmer that was resting on the side of the pool and it rolled and fell in.
