I am not one to to speak against books that I haven't at least perused at length, so in fairness and discrenment I'll need to read it to determine whether he's full of it or not.
The content from the last book, however, was not offensive at all and has some common sense points. Meh. I even gave one to a friend who I thought could benefit from it. I see the book as written by someone who went through decades as a knucklehead, eventually saw the error of his ways and of those around him, and is trying to do something better for himself and his current relationship and to share his testimony in what he learned the hard way about love and relationships. Where is the harm in that? I have yet to meet a person who hasn't fucked up big time in one aspect or another in their life, so I'm not going to judge him for past wrongs in his relationships when it appears he wants to do better and be better now, and move forward. It often tickles me how unforgiving we humans are against one one another, if Harvey has somehow found redemptive Grace in his life then so be it, and I would be the last to wish him ill as he tries to figure out his imperfect journey to get himself right and perhaps share a little bit of what he's learned with others along the way.
If I were to choose what are really controversial books out there regarding relationships, there are a host of them from the 80's ( 90's, and 00's ) that spewed so much garbage, it would seem that they would warrant some of the righteous indignation we're witnessing here for Harvey, which, his running themes seem to go along the lines of: comparing your long term and short term goals together; examining a man's relationship with his mother and friends; what matters most to him where he is now in behavioral traits and character; his views on family, children and the making and saving of financial funds. Seems like good stuff to pass along, one would think. However,in regards to other books that are really out there and give me great pause as to how or why they were published, some off the cuff ones that immediately come to mind:
Y'all remember this?
Uuum, girl, please go sit your vixen-trick-a-man-to-trap-him ass down somewhere. This instructional manual from the woman who gave the opinion on TV One that Elin Woods should shut her mouth and take Tiger back because with 2 small children she would have nowhere to go."Stay there, Elin. Where are you gonna go? What are you gonna do? Don't be stupid"
Spoken like a true non-expectation having, low self-esteemed female...which I find to be much more harmful than anything Harvey has said thus far in his writings.

I liked Steve too back in the day. Just think his time as a comic is up. He's been stale for a minute now imo. Don't laugh at my funk
This funk is a serious joint

True, but I gave him a pass for talking shit about SH. Besides, he owns his crazy unlike Steve who really thinks he's better and smarter than his audience.

Is Katt truly dealing with his mental "craziness" now? Is that why we haven't heard anything about him this year? I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

I said "owning" not dealing with. But I'm not sure, I wanna say I heard somewhere he was seeking counseling.

Dude was smiling for his mugshot like it was a first grade school photo "We may deify or demonize them but not ignore them. And we call them genius, because they are the people who change the world."

Ain't that what you posed to do???

Yeah I know you said owning as opposed to "dealing" ...I'm just hoping that he is dealing with his personal demons. I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

What a great suggestion. Many people in my city alone could use good advice such as this.
My friend works with a guy who is single, but has fathered 8 children from 5 different women. He doesn't see all the kids and doesn't make much money either. It infuriates me.

how about just borrowing a man for a while and then giving him back?? is there a chapter on that?

They're comedians so I'm not as bothered by it. They're supposed to make a fool of themselves. The BIG difference IMO is that Katt is staying in his lane while Steve is actually positioning himself as a credible relationship and advice expert when his backyard is quite shitty. Matter of fact, Katt gives women better advice: How you gon' let some other motherfucker take your self-esteem??? Self-esteem is esteem-of-yo-muthafuckin'-sef!!! [Edited 9/22/10 9:39am]

you would think though, that by the 3rd woman...ole dude would want to bag his stuff up.
Ohhh but best believe Mistah Harvey would probably put the blame solely on the women.

I'll take Katt over Steve & his 33 front buck teeth anytime,,,,he does have his share of coonery and buffoonery but the man has a crazy sense of humor, and seems like willing to develop his routine as opposed to the latter.
King of comedy He & R.Kelly should book a one-way-flight to delusionville with their title hogging asses.

fuck both them lames, give me my boy Paul Mooney any day
Katt and Steve, along with DL Hughley do the same routines for every show "We may deify or demonize them but not ignore them. And we call them genius, because they are the people who change the world."
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
DL's pretty damn funny though. Don't laugh at my funk

- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
yeah he is, especially when he's clowning the audience members
but that's why it's so frustrating when he recycles his routine for the past 10 years. I've seen at least 5 stand up performances of DL's where he does the same exact jokes....the same exact way
From the Kings of Comedy movie, Cedric and Bernie were the funniest
him down stairrrrrrrrrrrssss "We may deify or demonize them but not ignore them. And we call them genius, because they are the people who change the world."

Nobody answered my question about the suppose Bernie Mac and Steve Harvey Beef I'm in the mood for love...simply because your near me.

I saw Paul a few months ago and the entire set was on stuff that had been in the news a couple of weeks prior 2 the show. I've rarely seen a comic do an entire new set. it was GREAT.

Every set Paul Mooney does is great.

When I saw Steve on Dr. Phil's show recently, giving laughable relationship advice to several different spotlighted women in the audience, I knew then Steve is just doing this to be funny and get paid. It's a big joke, which is not surprising considering his occupation. I imagine him backstage or at home laughing at everyone buying/reading this garbage.
