eek eek eek

I swear... I'm out for two days and I miss THIS!! mad mad mad

RELAX the roots, and do a back to back protein condiotioner, then roller set as usual.

Roller set the hair as usual with a small amount of setting lotion to fight frizz in heavy humidity.

The following week, do a deep conditioning with a rich moisturizing conditioner under heat before setting the hair.

You're all set wink .... NEXT!

BTW... rememeber, control damage... condition, condition, condition! And if you jump and do relaxers too soon, it's always best to get the do done weekly, NO weaves, NO extensions, unless you want major breakage. mr.green

I don't do it for beauty, I do it so I can get a comb through my hair without breaking it lol. And also so I can whip mah hair back and forth at haters lol. I'm gonna go chemical it up in just a little while. Truly....I don't think it's "unnatural" either....just a choice to make. If my hair didn't respond well then that would be one thing, but my hair loves the chemicals and actually grows and looks much healthier. Shit I eat twinkies. What can I say? Gooooo, chemicals!

Exactly some us do not have natural curly hair. Who has time to break combs when one needs to get up and go to work. If perms work for some sister everybody should be okay and if others choose to go the natural route that is their decision. The best hair is healthy hair and if you eat any junk do not even start on the use of chemicals.

If you're breaking combs you're probably not doing it right. lol

LOL....I've have never worn a weave or extension in my life! I've had braids twice and that was so I could go to Jamaica looking all Stella-like....did not really like them though. I use Optimum Oil Care and that stuff is beyond awesome (Mane N Tail hmph! ). And then I use Nexxus Heat Therappe and flat iron. My hair looks really healthy again, as opposed to when I called myself chopping off all my hair and trying a natural fro. I do my own relaxers now (I like Dark and Lovely or Optimum) and I ixnayed all that other crap they used to tell us about "Black hair"....I wash my hair almost daily and keep it conditioned and that's really what it likes. I don't do heavy oils or greases (I love the Optimum Oil Care line). I do flat iron now but it took me a while to work back up to heat, I will only do it to go out. I miss my heat bonnet, it is in storage sad but I definitely will be doing weekly deep conditioning with it once I get my hands on it.

Stress has got grays popping and mild thinning on top though sad I ain't feeling that!

Hell I remember when I was young with the hot combs and 4 hour beauty shop trips....the things we do to our hair and our kids hair.

YUP! Any tangled hair can break a comb... especially if its thick and long... even hard rubber combs.

It's easier combing it while wet with a wide tooth comb from the ends on up. Less misery, breakage, and comb breaking that way. lol

If you have nappy hair all the wetness in the world is not going to stop it from being nappy.

Hair is at its weakest point while wet... so if you want to rip your hair off THAT is the way to do it!

Nappy hair is the most delicate hair, since its over curly and fine by texture it rips off with the quickness when tangled. Add to that tons of heat/chemical damage which makes for a loss of protein and elasticity.

If you have nappy hair, it is best to...

comb it out dry,

wash it,

comb it out with a creamy conditioner then

rinse in one direction while combing it out to "clear" the hair.

Combing nappy hair while wet leads to too much chipping off at the ends if not ripping the hair off mid shaft... this is why many women with nappy hair think that their hair doesn't grow. They rip it off using the wrong brushes and combs for their hair.... that and too much heat styling.

and if your combs break... buy better combs (hard rubber, wide tooth ) because it it better to break a comb than rip your hair off.

wink but that's just me...

Learned that the day after I posted that (that makes me look silly now sad ), but it is easier to manage while it's wet. And I have had less breakage though than I did when I did it dry, and I only do it once a week at most.

Before I forget, dry combing can cause the hair to knot and loop up, hair breakage closer to the scalp and at the ends, and also cuticle damage. Not the mention the more you dry comb, the more breakage you'll have.

Just to say that Black people have a lot of myths about their hair....namely that all Black hair is the same. Black hair is very delicate and easy to damage, but can be maintained and grow with the right love, and that love requires moisture. For my type of hair (because there are different types of Black vair with various level of kink factor and whatnot), it wants to be wet all the time, and moisturized. If my hair becomes overly dry it will break, no if, and, or buts about it. When my hair is natural, its kink factor is so high that it tangles on itself. Moisture is not going to penetrate that. I end up with a dred situation whether I want it or not. Now if you ran a comb through dreds, what would happen? Doesn't matter the comb, right? You can't comb a dred. That's why I say my hair could "break a comb". The kink in my type of hair has to be relaxed/straightened to allow moisture to penetrate. Once again, think of a dred, can moisture penetrate the inside of a dred?

Well basically I don't want dreds and that would be the only other option for me with my type of hair. That's why I say I need relaxer....The other thing I did learn was to break other myths. My hair needs to be wet and moisturized (leave in products!) and doesn't break hardly at all. I used to lose clumps of hair a long time ago before I realized about moisture, plus we have much better products now that don't clog up your follicles and sebum glands. My hair breaks more if it is dry. My hair grows like wildfire, I basically wash it every day or every other day, conditioner it, pull it up in a scrunchie, and go.

I know that for some of us sistas, it seems like advocate for the natural is a good idea. I definitely am proud to have a hig percentage of melanin in my skin, but I don't think I have to wear dreds to show my solidarity. Break the myths and learn what is good for your own hair. I relax and color my 87 year old aunt's hair too.....and her hair is almost halfway down her back. I am no hairdesser but I think I know a lil sumthin sumthing....wink

Black hair is at its strongest point when loaded up with moisture! At least for me.....

ALL hair is at its strongest point when its loaded up with moisture! It causes hair to have that "bounce back" factor. ALL hair breaks and splits when it lacks moisture. I have curly hair and my hair can split in unimaginable ways... hair tips be looking like little hands. lol Makes it hard to grow it fast.

Wet with water vs. damp with conditioner/oil/hair product are two entirely different things.

I am willing to bet that most people combing out their damp hair do it with some sort of hair lotion/conditioner.... get that "slide on with ya comb"... plain water and a comb does nothing but rip the hair. With that tearing sound... "KKKKKRRRRRRR"

I understand what cha mean though... oh and you can condition a dreadlock, wash and set (pincurls) dem bitches too! nod

ain't I a pain in the ass? lol

Relaxers can be great for hair growth if the hair is conditioned properly after. I press n curl my hair, and people all the time say I shouldn't. What evs. shrug

I'd like to relax my hair I'm thinking, I'm currently natural, but I don't want to do a FULL ON relaxer, just a tex lax.

Considering Just For Me for Kids just to get a different hair texture.

If I don't like it, I'll cut it off.
