Star of the Month: Vivien Leigh

Okay, so...the Star of the Month for September on Turner Classic Movies is Vivien Leigh. Tomorrow night, they're showing three of her best - Fire Over England, That Hamilton Woman and Waterloo Bridge - all in a row. Must see TV! biggrin

We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

Tennessee Williams really brought the best in her.

I can't believe they padded her for Gone With the Wind.

I can't believe she left her husband and child for Laurence Olivier

I can't believe she aged as well as she did.

I don't think they did. They taped her.

Wha??? Why on earth would they do that? She looked terribly....flat.

I have GWTW on dvd and although I haven't looked at it in awhile...there's good stuff on there about makeup/wardrobe/set design. I thought they padded her but I suppose one could be padded down so as to minimize the bossom. It would make for a more girlish look and the character of Scarlett was in fact the eldest of the three teenaged daughters.

Gawd I love that film. mushy

They taped her for the red velvet dress she wore to Ashley's birthday party. Apparently, Vivien Leigh's wasn't flat-chested, but her boobs kind of went sideways. So they scooped 'em up and taped them for the red gown.
