I think that the proper ettiquette is to AT LEAST cover your plates, then add whatever.

If you go by yourself, $100 sounds right. If you take a significant other, kids, etc, then start adding $$$.

Well a plate doesn't cost $100 for one person...I mean unless you're getting lobster tails and filet mignon!

I think $100 is sufficient for a couple.

lol

Well...I'm going by New York rates.

When I got married 14 years ago, we got married on a FRIDAY, in a small room, with little amenities and we paid $55 a head. Nowadays, you'd be hard-pressed to find a decent hall for less than $80-90 a person. And that's without lobster tail (filet mignon is actually relatively "cheap").

My niece's Sweet 16 cost $6,000.00 and that was in the basement of the hall with little amenities.

shrug We do things big in NY...so if you get invited to a wedding out here, be prepared to stuff at least $200/couple in the envelope for the newlyweds.

razz Oy. Storytime. I adore the stories and the telling of them.

~Well around May, I started seeing the ex again. Ended in mid-August, but not before we made out like teenagers and got busy like we were trying to make a baby. THANK GOD we did not, because I found out he hasn't changed a bit. Problems just evolved and he's just older and switching them over to very, very bad social habits. For once, I did the dumping. eek It felt odd. Then I got over it.

~On top of that, dad was going through his radiation treatments for the big C--Prostate Cancer to be exact. While everything went wonderfully, let me tell ya I was worried. We ALL were worried. But he was in the hands of some great doctors and went to what we call the "rich folks" hospital--Northwestern Memorial. Long story short, he's fine and the appetite is back. He ended treatments about two weeks ago.

~I finally finished a poetry book. Considering the fact that I tend to start lots of writing projects and work until I run out of ideas, it was an accomplishment. I started it two years ago. I've yet to edit it, however. So much about my style has changed since then.

~I FINALLY reached someone with my blog. A distant family member read it, got touched and then things sort of shot off from there. I had strangers crying and all that.

~Stopped smoking.

~Finally stepped over to the touch-screen side. It's not a BlackBerry or an iPhone, or even one of those Google things or a Pre, but it's cute. =D

Did a 12 week study on the Book of Isaiah. Went a few times to the Baltic Sea, a couple quick jaunts to N. Italy (only 1 hr away by plane, and 50 euros rt!), spent some time in a place called Cuxhaven (it's like the Cape Cod of Germany). Mourned the passing of a pet. Decided I'm weary of freelancing and am considering taking a corporate fashion gig to set aside money for long term culinary pursuits (cookbook, spice line, etc). Started planning wedding. Spent time with fiance's extended family (attended his aunt's dance concerts in a castle! Spent time at other auntie's farm with cows and horsies and chickens!). Got World Cup Fever. Worked on the terrace garden of my dude's apartment. Helped a frien out by substitute teaching to her preschoolers for a week (holy s***, it was hard falloff ) Learned how to live with less stuff since deciding to give up my fabulous apartment in the city. It was a pretty okay summer balloons

Ahhh....Cuxhaven ! I used to go there by bike. Spent a lot of my teenage years in that area.

I had an eventful summer...

* Ushered it in with a trip to France, Germany and Austria.

* Helped a friend finish his attic to accommodate relatives moving in with him.

* Hung out in Minneapolis for a week.

* Renovated the bathroom in my flat.

* Found an awesome new volunteer gig! dancing jig

* Did some repairs to our house in Cleveland.

* Hung out in Portland, Oregon, for a week.

* Hooked up one of my friends as first man in his wedding... then scared the crap out of him (with his bride's consent thumbs up!), when I did a strip tease toast -- not really naked, though -- at the reception. sexy

Probably the most packed summer I've had in years. Wished I'd had more time to job hunt, though.

That sounds rich. It's probably my favorite of the OT prophetic material (along with the last chapter of Malachi). What'd you take away?

Congratulations on stopping smoking and finishing the book. I wish I could stick with a project long enough to finish it. Everything I set my mind to I get bored of or distracted from before completing it.

Also good to hear your dad pulled through.

Thank you. smile I'm so glad he's fine, too. It all started in November of last year, but this was the second stage and it was rough watching my superhero go through so much. But I know he's back now. He asked me to make sticky icky treats last week--something he could not have been able to eat a while ago.

Yeah, finally quit the cancer sticks, finished my book--two things that were way overdue. lol

I didn't do much this summer except spend a lot of time in the beautiful Stockholm archipelago and go on a weekend trip to London. I think I'm actually moving towards scheduling the bigger trips for the winter or fall since I get more warm and nice months in the year that way. A couple of years ago for example I spent big parts of November and December in China and Vietnam which felt really invigorating, especially since I'd left the dreary darkness and cold of fall/winter behind me instead of having to trade away a nice Swedish summer.

Happy to hear you are actually living your life. I just got finished talking to a friend who goes all over the place, has his dream job {although now he's having second thoughts about it} has a good family but wants to switch lives with me. I told him "trust me honey, you do not want my life." lol

Yeah. My knack for nostalgia and sudden bursts of disgusting optimism make that difficult.

Can't say I've physically changed myself. Or gotten contacts. But I'm definitely not fun anymore.

Well, What also stopped it was. She expected to much from me. I never been in a relationship. I don't like drinking. Thinks creatiing charactors is lame, and childish. THATone took the cake! I'm highly creative, and passionate about my work! She's just a lame chubby, floozy, with just a bubbly personality! No talent. No hobbies.

I had a ball this summer woot!

  • Panama where I bought a condo
  • LA for BET Awards
  • New Orleans for Essence music fest
  • Hamptons for a birthday party
  • Jamaica for Sumfest
  • Las Vegas with tha girls and tha gays
  • NYC for fashion week
  • Lotsa quality time with family and friends

The summer's over and now I'm a part-time mom to my cousin's 7 year-old daughter while she finishes nursing school. That's definitely been an adventure and will shut down my travels for the next year.
