Beautiful friends, facebook, boring old people, otters, hipsters, the Queen, bums and a million other things... I was on facebook just now and suddenly realized that a good chunk of my friends are insanely good looking. I'm not so sure if I like this fact.

I don't have a lot of close friends, but I think a good percentage of them are good looking.

Put on your BIG GURRRL PANNIES and deal with it.
Work your individual hotness. It's all you can do. It's all I can do. I know that much.
You like it up the ass and getting choked...I'm sure that gives you some sort of advantage. |

I enjoy looking at them, a LOT
Yesterday my kid's ear nose and throat surgeon pulled out a smooth (well-used) line,
he's talking to my kid, saying "now, when you get to your mother's age - late teens, early 20s…"
without missing a beat in FRONT of my husband who didn't catch it, as usual
(At the last appointment he had a different but similar line which the master didn't want to hear about when I tried to tell him about it )

Facebook holds ZERO meaning for me as I don't participate in such nonsense. My "friends" are the people I hang out with in the real world. Some of them are ugly, but they're beautiful people. Some of them are drop dead gorgeous, but they're complete douchebags. Teh internets blur this line too much for me. Took me a long time to come to that realization, though. |

Just cuz you don't participate it doesn't make it nonsense.

My friends on there are all real life friends. If we've never met in person, you're not a facebook friend of mine.

Fair enough. If I was on facebook I guess I would try and post good pictures of myself, but I don't look good in any pictures LOL.
Anyway all my friends are better looking then me. A few of them can get girls just by looking at them. It's quite sickening but hey thats life.
Maybe as Iam not good looking myself I find my friends very good looking, if you know what I mean? |

Nonsense. Nonsense I say! (in a stuffy British accent)
As a business tool, it has it's uses. As far as finding, identifying, keeping in touch with or track of friends - nonsense! It's nothing more than a giant time suck. Pick up the phone and call somebody. Sit down and write some letters. Go outside and do something with your friends. Shit, get on a forum with like minded people (like this one) and have some group conversations. I still find that (this) infinitely more valuable than every social networking site combined, because at least there's still something slightly communal about it. Social networks have taken so much away from real interpersonal relationships and they've done it SO fast. Just, not my thing. |

That's cool. I can respect that. But why not just call 'em? Or write them an email? Or go out? I'm not judging, either - to each their own. I've just decided to not participate in the time sucking machine known as social networking altogether. |

What makes you think I'm not relaxed... or that I don't regularly watch porn? This response is exactly my point, though. I don't like social networking, versus - ya know, just being social, so there must be something wrong with me. In just about a decade these sites have changed the way a majority of the modern world interacts. As much as I hate people in general (and I do ), I still want to see their facial expressions and body language when communicating. At the very least hear their vocal inflections. It's just the way I am, and I'm quite happy to be this way.
Edited to fix a spelling error that was annoying the crap out of me! [Edited 9/13/10 22:19pm] |

Call them?? Are you kidding me? No one calls each other anymore. It's text or facebook.
But seriously, I always know what's going on in terms of shows, exhibits, parties, etc. A lot of my friends are artists and shit...so it's a good way to stay in the know. |

I do find it to be a very important/effective business platform.
But I've also connected with old friends and some folk I wouldn't have otherwise so I'm quite pleased. |

That's my point!
All the "staying in the know" I consider part of the business applications and I think it's great for that. I use all of them to keep up with whats going on with my jazz musician friends and the underground electronic music events. |
