Visiting In-Laws What's the big deal? I've been married 21 years and my father-in-law and his wife are coming for a visit in 11 days.
It's their first visit to my home.
Ever.
I'm a little freaked out. I'm firmly planted in denial

Thanks ya'll.
We've gone to see them repeatedly over the years, but this is the first time they're coming to us.
My in-laws will be in my house.
Weird. I'm firmly planted in denial

Don't freak out, you will handle this well
Hey, after being married for 21 years this is a piece of cake for you

Eugh. I sometimes wish my in-laws would only visit that often
I'm sure it'll be fine.
Do you get on with them ok?

Overall, yes, but in the last 5 or so years the favoritism he feels towards his younger son (my hubby is the oldest) has really been evident.
The only reason they're coming out is that they've gone to see my brother-in-law twice and they've never come to see us. My husband was hurt (as he goes to see Pop regularly and his younger brother rarely visits) and actually didn't speak to them for, what for them was a long time, so now my FIL is coming out.
After 21 years...I kinda don't want them to come anymore. I'm firmly planted in denial

sounds like a grudge visit
But you just be you and that's it. they already know and love you.

My in laws "pop in" unannouced all of the time. Moreso now that we have a baby.

My husband wants to move closer to my FIL.
Either he'll start "popping in" like yours do or we'll still never see him.

It is tough because I used to live 2 miles from my mom and we never popped in on one another. It has been almost 3 years and I am still not used to it. (It tends to be something hubbys parents and siblings do)

I love mine, just wish they could drop a text before popping in some times.
I may or may not be an inlaw one day. Who knows.

Oh, I am an in-law already.
I don't "pop in" And I'm using my current in-laws as an example of what NOT to do.
I'm firmly planted in denial

Now you know why the "pop in's " are so frustrating.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
I have a little trouble believing you
just kidding | |
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
You need to up the stakes. Answer the door in a gimp suit or wearing a strap-on.
Pop-ins will be a thing of the past.

That would certainly cure the problem for good.

Har dee har!!
I'll not talk about my DIL....but I could. I'm firmly planted in denial
