My top 4 for various reasons:
George Carlin: The master of political and social commentary Chris Rock: Call's it like he see's it. Ellen Degeneres: Finding the inane and ridiculous and pointing it out. Elayne Boosler: Great stand up-her late eighties early 90's stuff-beyond funny. No wonder she was the #1 stand up.
love plenty of others
Wanda sykes Eddie Murphy Richard Pryor Rita Rudner Paula Poundstone Redd Fox Al Franklin Roseanne Barr 99.9% of everything I say is strictly for my own entertainment

DesireeNevermind did a thread on comedians about a year ago. I have never listened to Kat Williams before then. He may have the most foul mouth but the guy really thinks about things and his take on the world we live in is hilarious. He is also very physical and that just adds to it. I don't watch TV, I have one I just don't turn it on much so I am not aware of the routines of alot of the other newer comedians listed. There came a time when the risk of remaining tight in the bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom. Anais Nin.

Chappelle Pryor Lewis Black Mooney Carlin Roseanne Margaret Cho
The funniest I ever saw on Def Comedy Jam was Bernie. I was crying & peeing.
I know it's out of synch but I don't feel like searching for another one.

You asked for favorite. My favorite of all time is Richard Pryor. In my opinion, he is the master/king of comedy. Nobody could touch him during his day, and few have even been as funny. Eddie Murphy came close in his day of standup. Paul Moony is also one of my faves. He wrote a lot of Richard's stuff. Another gifted comic was Robin Harris. He would hav gone really far had he not died so suddenly. Remember "BEBE's KIDS?" Runners up are Chris Rock, Bernie Mac, Eddie Grffin, George Carlin and Whoppi. Oh, Steve Harvey is hilarious in "Don't Trip. God Ain't Done With Me Yet."
