My old bed

Hiya. For the first time in 13 years, I'm lying in my old bed in my parents house. Now what's odd is that all that teenage weirdness is now seeping back into my head, long buried angst and repressed memories flashing their imprints like the veiny spiderweb you see after an eyetest. I seriously feel creeped out. I even remember the time I heard a rhythmic bell no-one else could hear and screamed the house down at 4am. I was eight and very highly strung. i hadn't realised how pointless giving a shit was at that point. All that mattered was where my next packet of Quavers wete coming from. Man, Quavers. I haven't had a packet for years. I don't like cheese but love cheesy corn-based snacks.
Anyone else ever get freaked staying in their old bed? Not that I care, but in the spirit of the internet and all that.

My old bed is gone. It was falling apart, so as soon as I left it was broken down and set out for bulk garbage. neutral

I live in the same house that I grew up in. (not the same bed)

When my parents passed away 13 years ago, I was left this house. I love love love it! My husband and I have completely redone it, but left a few choice things as memories from my parents. My Mom planted all of our fruit trees, so the kids always love to pick apples from "grandma's tree" etc.

My kitchen is very modern looking, but if you open my spice cabinet, you will find the original paint color that my dad had painted the kitchen in the 70's, a bright MUSTARD YELLOW!! It even has his writing on the wall of that cabinet, some measurement in pencil, from when he put the shelves up some 30 years ago.

My parents spirit is felt throughout. heart

My childhood bed was gone as of 1986, when my parents became "empty nesters" and moved. And I hadn't slept in it since 1981.

Frankly, I think that bed probably wasn't mine, either. We moved when I was 11 - and I think the four "kids' beds" got mixed up at that point. shrug

We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

My world is so not the norm....

When I was 19 I had my 1st child, and we needed a bigger place (my mom was a single mom and we had to get out that rough neighborhood) , I helped my mom buy her 1st house through a home buyer's program. She had better credit than me, so I gave her the application and helped her though the process since she didn't like reading in English. I had worked that entire year I was preggers, so I gave her the money for the down payment and bought an entire nursery and new bedroom furnishings for myself.

I still lived in my mom's home until I was 26... but it felt like OUR home and not me living in my mom's house she provided for me... it was sorta weird. When I go back there now, it feels as though I never ever lived there. Its HER home, and I never want to live there, but I do like to help her in the garden.

When I moved I took my stuff with me and she re-did the rooms to make a guest room and storage, my bed was long gone... had to upgrade. biggrin

I moved out of my parents house when I was 19. A couple of years later I decided I didn't like the boyfriend I was living with and we split up. I went back to my parents house and back to my own bed. I couldn't stand it and had to get up in the night and call a cab to go back to the house I shared with my boyfriend. I ended up staying with the boyfriend... and I think a big part of the initial decision to go back to him was because I couldn't stand to live back with my parents in my old room.
