Only nine reviews so far on Rotten Tomatoes, but they are all raving about Let Me In: http://www.rottentomatoes...let_me_in/

Could it actually be good??? eek

I'm surprised, too. The original was so well done that I'd assumed folk would be ready to pan this.

The one reviewer even suggests it's a "masterpiece!" whofarted Yikes.

It actually looks pretty closely done.

I like the original but found it greatly overrated as a HORROR film.

There was nothing scary or very suspenseful about it (I know there are many differing opinions of what constitutes horror). I'm not trashing the film, I very much enjoyed it. I just found it to be a great DRAMA.

To me, the strength of the original Let The Right One In was that it wasn't a horror story at all, but a story about loneliness employing the supernatural (vampires) as the metaphor for being outside the norm/mainstream (anyone being outside the mainstream should be able to relate).

As a drama with supernatural elements (in ordinary settings) in the vein of Andrei Tarkovsky's films, I think it succeeded wonderfully.

Now, the American remake .. ugh .. seems to not get the original's melancholy. It honestly looks as a typical "more guns, more blood, more fire, more sex"-American remake.

But true, as a horror film it failed. And the remake will fail also, because it seemingly thinks the original was a horror film.

Agreed

Not much I can say that hasn't already been said here. Looks like it'll be OK, but pretty much unecessary. The first was great. Why can't Americans just rent it?

And I'd have eaten my hat if they found a cuter girl to play the vampire.

I plan to buy the original but I'll see the remake. I can't imagine it being as good though.

Make sure to get the edition that has the theatrical English subtitles. The first edition of the video release doesn't have them and instead had simpler subtitles which lost a lot in translation.

Done! The last one standing is in your post so you can edit it out yourself. smile

Of course you could have just deleted the pic from your photobucket and all the links to it everywhere would have been erased too.

It's opening day now and the rating for Let Me In on Rotten Tomatoes has dropped to a more believable 83% fresh (74 positive reviews vs. 15 negative). Still pretty good.

I suppose I'll at least rent it out of curiosity since there are a few more films out in theaters right now that I want to see more.

Roger Ebert claims Let Me In is about child abuse. I didn't get that at all from Let the Right One In. The adult world seemed ineffective and inconsequential in determining their destiny.

The original was heavy on child neglect. But abuse, no, I didn't get that vibe at all either. It must be something new added to the remake.

in the novel the kid's father was an alcoholic and his mate came around all the time so they could drink themselves into oblivion. I think even the swedish movie made it seem more sinister - you could totally read child sexual abuse into it if you wanted to nod the father's strange behaviour
went unexplained.

Hmm...sexual abuse never even crossed my mind from the original movie. Maybe I figured having to deal with a vampire child was enough to explain away strange behavior. lol

Wait. She's supposed to be a boy?? eek

I've forgotten the scene you're talking about. Or does "not female" refer to "not human"?

SPOILER!

If you haven't read the book then you're led to believe that she means a vampire whe she says she's not a girl, but when Oskar peeks in on her changing and sees the scar where her penis used to be, you know the truth. nod
