I will admit that I like the casting of Chloe Moretz (500 Days Of Summer, Kick Ass) to play the vampire child in the remake.
She's a cutie pie, but there's something almost too conventionally cute about her to me for this role. Hmm... Maybe rather than cuteness, I'm missing an endearing quality: I really enjoyed that Lina Leandersson was not only cute, but there was something eccentric, enchanting, even pitiful in her face.
I confess I've not seen Chloe Moretz act, though. I've heard only good things. She may win me over.

I did find Chloe a little too cute and precocious in (500) Days Of Summer, but her cuteness looks like it's played down in the new trailer. She's rightfully made to appear more tomboyish. |

that tested my limits
It didn't test one horror limit for me. I just thought it was a touching nice drama about a vampire child. I don't know if it was a novel, but I think it would've made a great (classic even) horror novel. As a film however I didn't find it scary at all. There was no moment in which I felt nervous at what horrific scare might come next. I'm being serious.
The movie is based on a novel which has a lot more backstory and explains the nude scene in the film which had many people who didn't read the book scratching their heads, I'm sure. |

actually that is probably what scares me. AND the girl SHOULDN'T be cute, for one very good reason which will be completely cut out of the film, since it will just be confusing |

Great discussion! Glad to see the same familiar faces still hanging out at the org. (I've been super-absent but the org just never goes away!!!)
And OMG sexton changed his avatar!!!
that makes me think of a horror movie right there, like avatar repossession or something

It's really me you guys. I'd post the pic of us at my place when you came to visit to prove it's me if it wasn't locked in my old cellphone. Could you send it back to me? To my new phone? |

I liked your old avvie better I think, even though it was OF a girl (and the same girl), it was more masculine, this one I keep missing when I'm stalking you and scrolling through threads

the OTHER one was more masculine? I liked that it was feminine because it makes me think of him as being sweet and soft inside. |

in my opinion I could almost believe it was a guy, like David Bowie, with make-up on or something

Yeah, I think it took me a really long time to wrap my head around the fact that sexton was really a guy. But by then, it didn't matter. I like the sensitive type. |

I'm going to have to say that a story about lonliness employing the supernatural is classic horror material. It's horror. Just like the movie "Se7en" is horror and "Silence of the Lambs" is horror.
Horror has long standing tradition in literature to be dramatic, character heavy. There are many great horror movies that do the same.
Let the Right One In has so many horror elements that all work. Including "the underdog that gets picked on until all his/her enemies get slaughtered in the end".
I agree. Just because it was subtle doesn't mean it failed as a horror film. I found many parts to be chilling the first time I watched it--the scene under the bridge for example. Perhaps many of us are used to extreme visuals now and are desensitized to more delicate movies like Let The Right One In.
Johnart, I know you're like that, your posts are all over this thread: http://prince.org/msg/100/312065
I agree...I think the sublety is what made it so damn disturbing...and that's what a horror film should be.
I predict that the remake of this movie will be just terrible. Why remake it? Because most Americans hate reading subtitles. It's a shame. |

It's just like the upcoming The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo remakes. At least the rumor about Scarlett Johansson being cast was false. http://www.nydailynews.co...attoo.html |

Could it actually be good???
Wow. It's surprising. When we went to see Last Exorcism, the trailer for this played like a snoozefest on the big screen. Hope its actually good. I'm sure I will give it a shot at least on video. |
