Resume Question

Help!!!

I just found out that a position has become vacant in the old building where i used to work....and the store manager is my old manager...(who i get on well with)

My question is this , when doing my cover letter, do I address this person by their first name, and mention our previous work history, or do i address as Mr, and just let my history do the talking.

I speak to this person, face to face every week, but am shit scared of going the "personal" route if this will rule me out.

Im too scared to even email personal addy for job details boxed

headlp

seems that i was busy doing something close to nothing, but different than the day before music beret

I would do the 'Mr' thing, then make a 'guess what i've sent you' phone call

good luck wink

Your applying for a job so always keep your letter formal and professional.

You might know each other on a personal level but you need to let him know that you can separate your private life from your personal life.

And that you are serious about the position and don’t expect to get it as a personal favour.

Good luck!!

Keep it formal and write it as if they don't know you or what you've done..otherwise it looks Luke you ate using your friendship to secure the job

Thanks everyone for the help!!!

I have written it as if it would be read by a complete stranger...I have to remember to take him out of my contact references though giggle

It might not even be the hours I need, but I won't know unless I try.

That'batest...if all goes well you can laugh an joke about calling him "Mr xxxxx" and it's a talking point but if it's the otherway and he didn't want to be called "Dear Mike" then it aint so comfortable...plus it shows your attention is on the work foremost and friendship during working hours second.

I guess it's too late anyway, but I would definitely have kept him as a reference and mentioned your previous working relationship. I mean, why not? It just makes your application stronger if you have somebody "on the inside" who can vouch for you. If you pretend like you don't know him, it just seems like it's some kind of dirty little secret that needs to be covered up. shrug

Well, after checking my emails all day, i get a visit from my old manager...

he said he had gotten my email, but that his boss(owner) was probably looking for a jnr....but i havent been discounted.

hours/days still havent been confirmed.

He is going to get his wife to look over my resume (I saw the one she had done for him last year... faint amazing), so, at least i will get a updated resume out of it woot!

and i have got him to keep his ear to the ground, the industry is small, and vacancies usually are by word of mouth through reps etc.

i thought this was very nice, he didnt have to go out of his way to let me know what was going on...would have been much easier for him to email...

And, its not as if i dont already have a job, when i know many who dont sad
