Um...well...

Do Parakeets count? They're usually very social and affectionate in general. But I was always told that males fought one another. I sorta anticipated some kind of 'keet cock fight when we introduced two male birds to one another after earlier pets had died. Well, these two birds ended up loving each other like it was some kind of eternal bromance or something. They fought, sure, but most of the time they were talking to each other or kissing...or...doing that feeding thing I thought only happened between birds of the opposite sex.

I know they weren't dumb, so they knew they were both males. I never saw one trying to mount the other. (we had a case of that with my grandmother's female bird and my pretty white parakeet.) I dunno. They just seemed to love each other in a way that suggested more than just friends. More than something like the older bird caring for the younger one. I thought it was kinda sweet. lol my grandmother just shook her head. She tried to hard to stop all the kissing and romantic grooming.

Or maybe they were bi. I dunno. The older one passed away and now there's a new baby female in the picture. My aunt told me that she and the old bird were just as cuddly and lovey dovey after their first day of arguments. So maybe back in the day, he was making do to get by.

I work at a library and a patron recently explained that her two male pet rabbits were humping like crazy. She expected to avoid all that by buying two males. However, I found a book that said it's common with rabbits (both female and male) when they aren't spayed or neutered and aren't with the opposite sex.

What's the name of those monkeys who notoriously hump and suck any and every other monkey they come in contact with regardless of sex?

I have neutered male cats that try to mate each other. Doesn't mean they're gay however. Maybe they're just confused. lol

Now I'm confused. Only males can be neutered. lol

In the 1990s, I had two doves. I kept hoping they would mate and have babies but they never did. One of them would follow the other one around the cage, get behind it and bow several times making a coo-ing sound. The other bird would just ignore his ass and go on about it's business. It reminded me of the cat that Pepe LePew used to chase that wasn't interested in him at all. Then, the horny male would get frustrated every now and then and jump on the other bird's back. This always started a fight and the feathers would be flying everywhere. I just figured the other bird just wasn't interested in him.

One day, I was watching a television show and it said you could tell which dove was the male by their feet or something, hell I can't remember what it was. Anyway, I looked in the cage and both birds' feet had that trait. They had been two males all along so apparently one was gay and one was straight. My mother tripped me out. She said with them locked up in that cage together, that damn smaller bird was fighting off a prison rape. lol
