Angered and betrayed by LeBron James’(notes) decision to leave for Miami, Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert accused the NBA’s MVP of quitting during the playoffs.

Gilbert, who posted a letter to Cavs fans on the team’s website shortly after James announced his plans to sign with the Heat, told The Associated Press late Thursday night that it’s “accountability time” for James.

“He has gotten a free pass,” Gilbert said in a phone interview with The AP. “People have covered up for (James) for way too long. Tonight we saw who he really is.”

Gilbert feels James quit on the Cavs during their second-round series against the Boston Celtics, who rallied from a 2-1 deficit to eliminate Cleveland.

“He quit,” Gilbert said. “Not just in Game 5, but in Games 2, 4 and 6. Watch the tape. The Boston series was unlike anything in the history of sports for a superstar.”

“LeBron James needs to go to another team with two superstars already so he can win a championship,” Gilbert said. “We will win a championship before (the Heat) do.” (Yeah, right) rolleyes

Gilbert said he now wishes he had done some things differently with James, who spent seven seasons with the Cavs.

“It’s not about him leaving,” Gilbert said. “It’s the disrespect. It’s time for people to hold these athletes accountable for their actions. Is this the way you raise your children? I’ve been holding this all in for a long time.”

I was waiting for the owner to call Lebron an uppity negro. disbelief

It's not just him, but I've been watching(in amazement) the sports reporters of the caucasion race, bad talk LeBron for leaving as well. It seems that since they didn't have a say in his decision, or have the opportunity to pen his departing speech, that he's now some selfish egomaniac who has betrayed the trust rich white men have put in him. Him having an hour long special where he announces his decision(which they sat and watched for the entire hour) was the worst thing a human being could do. They crack me up. Michael Jordon, Magic Johnson, Larry Bird, Kobe, Shaq and Kareem all shared their rosters with other all-stars. How the fuck can LeBron deminish his legacy by going to a team with two other all stars? I say smart move and kick ass next season LeBron. I'm a Chicago fan by the way. lol

I was just talking to a friend about this bullshit article on Yahoo about how he diminished his legacy by going to Miami. Where the fuck this bullshit come from??? rolleyes

He made a business decision that suited his own interests. Team owners cut players everyday cuz it's what's best for THEIR bottom line. So why is Lebron being vilified for doing the same thing? And the tone from a lot of folks in the press is really odd and has some racist connotations IMO. But it's the press' typical MO, build 'em up to tear 'em down.

And why everybody bitching about the tv special? Lebron wouldn't have been able to do a special if the media didn't give him a platform to do it. I bet it was their idea and I'm sure they made a bundle in ad revenues. It's the media who made this shit a circus by constantly pressing him on where he's going for the last 2 years. MANY times I've seen him try to be professional and say he'll deal with it when the time is right and avoid answering. But the media wouldn't let it go and have built this frenzy around his decision only to rake him over the coals for choosing Miami.

And that owner needs to shut the fuck up, cuz he's obviously been faking the funk if he disliked Lebron and his inner circle for all these years, yet was breaking his neck to keep him there. Do you think his opinions about dude being lax in the playoffs woulda came out if he had resigned. Hell to tha naw, cuz he woulda been a good lil negro going along with massa's plan. Based on this owners response there were clearly other reasons why Lebron didn't resign with Cleveland that the general public doesn't know about.

The guy was there for 7 years, right? What more did he want LeBron to do?

From what I read these 3 players came into the league together and did the olympics together. This seems to be about more than money for them.

The party is on Fox Sports and the commentators are talking about how unprofessional Gilbert's sour grapes rant is.

I think the argument is Magic, Larry, Michael, Hakeem, the truly great ones had their own shit - they were THE MAN on their teams. LeBron was the man in Cleveland, but he's giving that up to be part of someone else's team. But a lot of that's on Gilbert for not supplying James with a better surrounding cast. He should have gone for Stoudemire.

I heard LeBron wanted to stay in Cleveland and tried to recruit Bosh, but Bosh wanted NO part of that city.

Well just get ready for nonstop shit, if they lose they all will become the biggest joke in history of basketball. The whole thing however, just fucking reaks of EGO and bullshit, each side, the media and Lebron, needs to take their hits for this nonsense, if i see Lebron backtracking now and crying foul about his "treament" he is a bigger bitch than i thought he was before. But i shouldnt be surprised by this from a Florida team, they basically bought a championship with the Florida Marlins years ago, and then when they lost they cut everyone and now are a team in oblivion who will probably not be a franchise in a few years. So like the Yankees did when they got A-Rod and he played that EGO shit, they lost 3 years in a row including a year not making the playoffs, till they won but not before more changes were made, but the yankees learned what Miami will learn, you cant win with 2-3 players, in baseball you need 25, and in Basketball you need a bench, and miami has none, and now no money to get anyone, so, like many, im just counting the months till the first bullshit comes up, or in a city like Miami, U KNOW for a fact that Lebron or Bosh or Wade is gonna get HIT with some sort of scandal, and just wait for the finger pointing when they lose a couple of games, and god forbid one or two gets injured, what a fucking drama this is, over a dumb fucking game.

Why can't you win with 2-3 players? Pat Riley is not stupid. He's in the process of

adding Mike Miller to the fold. You can just imagine the role players that would love

to come in and be a part of something special. It's no need for people to get tight in the

ass or have a heart attack over Lebron James press conference. Is it just okay for the Lakers and Celtics

to add star players. I for one would like to see a team like this assembled in Miami to

challenge those teams. So what LeBron has an ego. Shit Peyton Manning has an ego.

Drew Brees has an ego. Should we villify those guys too? What great player doesn't have

an ego? LeBron just had a press conference and people are having a fucking aneurysm

over it. And the stupid ass owner in Cleveland Dan Gilbert and fans in Cleveland should just

shut the fuck up about the press conference because if Lebron would have announced he

was staying in Cleveland, they would have shot a load in their pants and been talking shit

about winning the title next year. It's your perogative to feel like it's a dumb game but i'll

I enjoy reading your posts. It pretty much sums up the truth here. I don't get all the

1. The owners of the Florida Marlins has no choice but the break their last championship team up because it cost them too much money to keep most of that roster intact. They NEVER had an over the top payroll system like the New Youk Yankees; Better yet, no baseball team can out spend those damn Yankees! They got the market locked to a stand still and the MLB are at fault for allowing it to stay that way without inventing a salary cap rule like the NFL & NBA to even the playing field.

2. As for the Miami Heat, they will win a NBA championship with their Big 3, barring any major injuries.

Remember Boston from 3 years ago? Their Big 3 help them win it all within one season.

Now I don't think Miami is going to get it done as fast as Boston did it. But it will happen within 3 seasons. There is a rumor that Jason "White Chocolate" Williams may return to Miami. But with teammates like Dwayne/LeBron/Chris, almost any average point guard can play with this Miami Heat team and get serious assist stats. Hell, if Allen Iverson is willing to play just 2 seasons for dirt cheap, he can be the new point guard! lol

The Yankess are doing nothing wrong but playing by the rules set up by MLB. And they're not the only team that spends money - the Red Sox, Mets, Cubs, Dodgers have high payrolls too. But a high payroll doesn't guarantee success - from '82-'95 & '01-'08 the Yankees didn't win shit, but people only bring up payroll when they win. The Twins are a perfect example of a team that's in the hunt every year without a huge payroll - they have an excellent front office, farm system, scouting and an owner who gives a damn, unlike the idiots in KC and Pittsburgh(who pocket the money for themselves instead of investing in their team).

I do believe that Miami will win the NBA title in the next couple of seasons, but it will be contingent on them getting enough role players to add some depth. I'm sure that there are enough veteran players who may actually want to sign for the minimum salary just for a chance to play with the big three and win a championship. With LeBron and Chris Bosh signing with Dwayne Wade in Miami, it's obvious to me that they are going the most recent Celtics route towards a championship. The question is whether or not Miami can find the equivalent rising players like a Rajon Rondo or Glenn "Big Baby" Davis plus some veterans who can play off the bench to rest LeBron/Wade/Bosh.

Im not saying "basketball" is a dumb game per say, all these games are dumb because of the emphasis people put on it, they are all meaningless, the shit going on in Clevland with Jersey burning is just as dumb as what is going on in Miami about celebrating like you won a championship. The Lakers were built around one guy, they didnt really throw 3 superstars in a mix and win, and the Celtics are far from champs, they have become like the Atlanta Braves, get to the show and always choke. But that team two was built, they were losers for alot of years and were built on picks and now those guys have gotten old and the Celtics now will most likely start to fall. Its fine to have an ego, who cares on that, but have an EGO when you win, you have no ring, and have had a habit of choking when its on line, lets face it, they easily could have beaten the celtics. In the end you cant win with 2-3 players, it takes a bunch to step up when its time, these dudes aint ou there all 48minutes on the court, they play what 30 at best. So like I said Lebron can do what he wants, but take your lumps with it, if he backtracks and apologizes than he is a bigger phony than others that have made this kind of jump, A-rod comes to mind, though he didnt hold a press conference and have an hour long show, and plan a dvd release for it too.

Hell, if Allen Iverson is willing to play just 2 seasons for dirt cheap, he can be the new point guard! lol

Not so true on the Marlins, they let alot of Young talent coming up go, that they had money to keep, the Marlins,Pirates, and a few other teams this year were found to have been "hording" money, and NOT going after big players and having the money. True the Mets and Yanks and Boston have the Money, but, with the exception of the Yankees, they are the only ones winning right now, Boston is in trouble, the Mets are holding on barely to 2nd-3rd place. But dont be fooled that teams DONT HAVE MONEY, they got it, its just alot of them held it, the 3 i mentioned spend it like its going out of style while other teams and owners keep it.

You feel that the NBA and NFL are equal playing fields??? Really im missing that, i see some baseballl teams winning that dont spend, take Minnesota, take Tampa Bay, Take Cincinnati in First Place! and then the Padres having the best record, none are big market

Yeah, but Boston already had role players that were playing together. Heat only have 2 players under contract currently.

Exactly. nod

LeBron has replaced Tiger Woods as the most hated sports figure in America, and it shows how pathetic humans really are. All he did was exercise his right to work wherever he wanted. And New Yorkers who curse LeBron and the Heat for what they did need to STFU because the Yankees do the same shit.

Wow. This is gonna be interesting. lol

Of course he's got an ego. He's got tickets on himself, the big dufus. It's nothing new to pro sports though, is it? He wants to win a championship so I don't blame him for going to Miami now Bosh is there too. I can't wait to see how it works out for them.

Bron wants to be compared to the best, he gotta do what the best did.

Patrick Ewing never joined up with Charles Barkley and Dominique Wilkins to take done MJ and the Bulls.

People wounld't care if Bron went to play with New York on Chicago or New Jersey, but he went to Miami with probably the 2nd best player in the league and another top 10 player who just joined the day before ... that's why Bron has turned into public enemy #1.

KG went to play with Pierce and Ray Allen. KG didn't get the hate Bron is getting.

Also those three players did promos for ESPN as the three amigos so no one

should hate on the magnificent 3 for the heat.

Patrick probably should have. Those cats might be wearing a ring or two.

Ask Clyde Drexler.

In fairness, Clyle Drexler did joined Hakeem (who already has 1 championship ring a years early) in order to FINALLY get his 1st ring. And also, Jerry West didn't win his one and only championship ring without the L.A. Lakers making the trade for Wilt Chamberlain.

Therefore, I think LeBron & Chris have solid points about joining Dwayne in Miami. wink

KG and Ray and Pierce were not at the top of their primes and all in their 30s and had been in the league 10+ years and none had made the playoffs for a while when they got together. Also, none of them were free agents, they were all traded.

LeBobo is comming of his 2nd straight MVP, 2nd straight 60+ win season and is 25 in the prime of his career. Bosh is also in the prime of his career as is Wade. All 3 might have had their best season this past season.

Abd Clyde was 35 yrs old in his 12th season when h e got traded to houston for Otis Thorpe. He didn't leave Portland.
