My nails need help! My name is Shoewhore and I'm a reformed acrylic nail addict. I've been acrylic free for almost a year now.
The problem is though my nails grow long, they're very weak no matter what I put on them. I'm thinking about possibly getting gel overlays or perm french but really don't know what would be best.
Suggestions? Advice?
After having acrylics for so long it's frustrating how fast a manicure gets messed up on natural nails. Will gels, etc. help that? Can you put polish over permanent french or will it mess it up?

You should just cut them regularily so they grow stronger before they can grow out..there are also clear polishes made for strengthening your nails..that can help. What is your main problem?

Don't put a gel overlay just yet. You want to strengthen your weak nails FIRST, and then you can put a liquid gel to preserve your manicures.
Try this:

I have shit for nails. Always have had...always will have. On natural nails, I can't keep a polish to save my soul.
I don't even fight the acrylic thing. I just get 'em done. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves. | |

I've tried this (and just about everything else on the market!) my nails are still weak. I kept them short till they had completely grown out from the last set of acrylics.

Well, if they're "fucked" anyway, and you don't want acrylics, go for the gel overlay to at least keep your polish/manicure on. ACRYLIC

I use and have for 30 yrs or so
Hoof Flex Conditioner ~ yes the same as we put on our horses hooves
a tiny bit 3 or more times a week at bed time
