I go for old movies when I feel like something that stays in a "safe zone", i.e. where there's no gore, no bizarro sexual behaviour, no sadism or even foul language etc. Old movies just gently chug along and have a certain seductive gloss and style. Sometimes that bores me, but other times it's exactly what I need.
