Is Facebook the end of the GD boards here at the org?

many GD"s have left for facebook...others are on facebook and don't come here often.

I don't want to facebook. is this the end of the fun on the GD boards?

I hope it's not the end--I doubt it will be. Some appear to have left, but others are joining. Seems the way it works on boards like this. I'm with you--I ain't Facebookin' for anyone.

Being an expatriate, FB should be a much needed feature in my daily basis more than most folks(to keep in touch with my family/friends back home and all) but even still, I refuse to succumb to the peer pressure hammer didn't give in for myspace then, I sure as hell won't start with FB now.

I don't understand why people feel the need to take a stance on FB. I wasn't on it for ages as I didn't want to be, then I did so I joined.

It's like saying you don't want a phone.

I can understand not wanting internet at all, but if you hang out on the org, why get so high and mighty about FB?

It doesn't mean anything in itself. It is just a question of what you do with it.

I can't quite get hooked into facebook the same as here. I have tried, but it seems less conducive for open discussion because i only see the discussions my friends start or comment on, not like here where it's totally open

I'd say the greater threat to our perceived "fun" is some of the heavy-handed modding that's been goin' on... talk about killjoys... rolleyes

I'll keep coming back for all that the org continues to offer though... boogie

I don't have a Facebook account, and I don't plan to get one anytime soon. I did sign up with MySpace in 2006, but I hardly put any friends on it, and all I mostly got were porno span friend requests, which turned me off. You could say that I was one of the earliest adopters of Twitter, since I joined in October, 2007. I sent my first tweet then, looked around the site for about 15 minutes, and didn't come back on for nearly a year and a half. I tweeted a little bit up through last summer, but I have hardly been back since.

Facebook is like breakfast table chat with extended family and friends: We check in with one-another, share milestones and updates, reminisce a bit, make sure we're all doing well (or offer support when someone is not) ...and that's about it. Clean and sober. The org, however, is my local pub -- it's where I can escape to for a dash of energizing dysfunction, meet folk from all over the world who can teach me new stuff, pontificate myself about any and everything, get a bit irreverent, brawl a bit, kiss and make up... and do the whole thing again the next night if I choose. lol I love it.

I don't see the overlap, and I don't lke mixing the two worlds. They're a handy balance of one-another.

Facebook is more like real life to me. I go there to connect with people I like from here and GD is where I can connect to the people I like who don't Facebook. Everything else I am learning to ignore.

yeahthat This is the same with me, I know people who would never org. They aren't into this site and so FB is for them, and the org is for my org relationships. I do have orgers friended on FB but not many.

the org has stood the test of time with myspace, ICQ, IRC, Bebo etc. I imagine Facebook will eventually lose it's steam.
