I don't understand why people feel the need to take a stance on FB. I wasn't on it for ages as I didn't want to be, then I did so I joined.

It's like saying you don't want a phone.

I can understand not wanting internet at all, but if you hang out on the org, why get so high and mighty about FB?

It doesn't mean anything in itself. It is just a question of what you do with it.

Blackadder - I think you should come and play with us. I'll be gentle, at first. wink

No stance from me shrug there's no intrest to persure FB. I'm here because the primary theme of this board is Prince - I got lucky when I found folks who share the same tastes as myself. I hit the blogosphere for number of reasons too.

Another thing, I never put my personal infos(picture, real name, etc) in internet, which is what FB(and myspace) are mostly about; social networking. Nothing against folks who do though, its just my personal thing and I've always made a habbit of restricting the internet to escapism or business purposes only. Rest of the stuff are done outside of it.

That's why I came too, but there's only so many times I can be bothered to defend my love of The Rainbow Children or explain why Parade is so much more than a coaster. dead

Sure it's cool to meet peeps who are into P too, and I'm looking forward to meeting some of them next month. excited

But I get that you like the anonynymity of the org - I did too, but once I came across folks that I liked, I wanted to know who they were. Guess I'm just nosy smile

I guess P is why I came to the org, but it's not why I come to GD. grouphug

It´s like comparing apples and oranges. I come to the org for the music forums, GD topics and fun, and the P&R forum. Facebook is not really a forum but a way to stay in touch with people.

I enjoy both.

My 2 cents. I am on facebook, but I only facebook with people I know and am comfortable with sharing everyday things. Never strangers or people I would not socialize normally.

I come here for random stuff and different views. I prefer facebook, but would never give up my Org account.

many GD"s have left for facebook...others are on facebook and don't come here often.

I don't want to facebook. is this the end of the fun on the GD boards?

Facebook has cast a negative effect on the whole entire org, not just GD.

And BTW, I also have a Facebook account that I only use to keep contact of a very few people that I meant in person. My settings are private, the way it needs to be for anyone with a Facebook account.

Thank you Dani. My wife is attractive (and also crazy), and so are you (attractive that is, the crazy would all be speculation), and undoubtedly so, but I saw that scruffy old man you were with so forgive me if I don't trust your judgment. hug

Around here in Vancouver, everyone's got FB. Young, old, students, professionals. It wasn't until I saw people on the Org making a stance about not "joining the crowd" or succumbing to peer pressure or complaining about stalkers or whathaveyou I was even aware anyone took issue with it. Here having a FB account is as normal as having an email address.

It's the most useful tool going on the internet, if you ask me. I've been able to track down old friends I hadn't seen in years, and cousins and other family members I thought I'd never see again because of it.

The great thing about FB is keeping in contact with people far away and learning weird stuff about the people close to you. It's a great tool, a great platform to keep up to date with brands and products in a simple and fun way.

People 'against' FB makes me giggle a little bit, cuz to me, FB just shows the side you wanna share with your friends and/or the world. If you wanna be private about it, have fun with it that way! There ain't no wrong on there, except the wrong you create yourself.

To me, FB is posting YouTube links, hipping friends to music in ways Org can't (well, not without the loads of obvious bull of people you don't care about). But, as many smart peeps pointed out; it's apples and peaches; you cannot really compare them.

I still prefer FB in so many ways. The possibilities they offer make it a way more fun experience and better applicable to real life than Org. But I am grateful for the great peeps I met on here. I got most of them on FB except the people who lead double lives and cannot incorporate Org on their Facebook.

To me, all the peeps I met here and took with me to FB are sweet to me. And I added a few people I met here since my return here a few months back, so Org's still a place that can generate lots of positive energy. And thr memory of that will be with me, even when I delete my profile again in a few months time.

Well even with the "greatness" of Facebook, there's still something great about the ORG. I don't know, people are going off the top about deactivating their profiles here. lol I can understand things can get tense here but I still like it here to a fault. lol

GOOD!

And yes, there's still some good on Org, but it's just more fun to keep in contact with them THERE than on here. At least for me. And I still meet great peeps. Met a GREAT guy through Dan and through that great guy an even GREATER gal.

But then again, Org's got MacDaddy.
