things that instantly take you back to your childhood...

so last night i had some instant dejavu.... i had a good friend over and it was a movie night.. i decided it had been about 2 yrs since i watched the labyrinth.. one of my all time favorite movies not just because its a mystical movie but because my whole life ive been a jim hensen fan...

so after the movie was over i realized there are very few things that can instantly take me back to a childhood moment .. this is one of them.. i can watch that ballroom scene and actually tell you a time of when i was watching it as a kid and would act it out and pretend i was her..

another thing that instantly brings back memeories for me is listening to any early new kids on the block album... i swear when i was a girl those guys were everything to me.. I had the sleeping bag, all 5 of the barbies, 13 shirts.. i remember listening to my walkman riding my bike down the block just day dreaming of what it would be like to meet them .. ohhh my god especially jordan or joey.. they had my heart...

anyway just thought i would share what brings it all back to me.. those times that were so simple and innocent in my life that are now long gone with the stress and worries of being an adult..

so do any of you have anything that brings you back like this ? i would love to have you share if you want too..

thanks

Christmas carols.

The smell of firewood burning.

The smurfs. Specifically, a smurfs blankett I used to own.

These will sound weird...

The smell of sugar beets being refined in the Fall.

The smell of pinto beans cooking, fresh tortillas, and pinesole. (Mom would make beans and tortillas after cleaning the house all day.)

The smell of motor oil on a winter day. Reminds me of my Dad when he would get home from work, and I would stand in the hallway to jump out and scare him. He always acted scared but I now know he was doing that for me. giggle

The smells of the holidays. Like Christmas and Thanksgiving.

I really like your list, but I guess I was in my early 20's if you remember the above from your childhood. Lawdamercy, getting old's a BITCH! But not to get off topic, here are a few of the things that immediately take me back:

The smell of fresh strawberries

Peach ice cream

Hearing Frankie Lymon's "Why Do Fools Fall In Love"

White wall tires; the big ones from the '50's.

The smell of a chalk eraser with actual chalk dust. Do schools even have black/green boards anymore?

Real Crayola crayons.

Bambi

Pencil boxes. You youngins don't even know what I'm talking about, right? lol

The Littles, Rainbow Brite, She-Ra, all the great Saturday Morning cartoons! NKOTB (I even saw a couple of their recent tours for nostalgia's sake), Smurf slippers, ewoks, pajamas w/ feet, barbies, the commercial for kool-aid w/ the Jets! haha MJ's Thriller & Bad. California Raisins, roller skating while chewing bubblicious gum to the beastie boys as well as the Fat Boys, "Wipeout." haha Calling the radio station all day requesting LL Cool J's "I need love." LOL Oh so many things. I'm such a big kid still. Oh! Playing the Legend of Kage w/ my fave cousin (RIP) and learning to poplock from my cousins. smile PLUS... PURPLE RAIN! Oh & Madonna's Desperately Seeking Susan days! biggrin
