Oooh! That's the "Spuds McKenzie" dog from those beer commercials back in the day. I think I found out for ya!

http://wiki.answers.com/Q/What_kind_of_dog_is_Spuds_McKenzie

What kind of dog is Spuds McKenzie?

Spuds is actually a Bull Terrier. A breed that is often confused with a Pit Bull.

If I get another dog I want that one!!! woot! Look at that face. How could you not love it?

I also adore that dog that Bethenny Frankel has...not sure of the breed. Gotta look it up.

falloff

I don't know what kinda dog that is Bethenny has either hmmm I think it's name is Cookie?

She's a mean heffa with MUCH 'tude!!! Her little bitty ass THINKS she's a Pit!!

She's cute tho

Huh? They are the same. Pitbulls are terriers - in the hunting breed. Pits are excellent jumpers and can climb stuff really well. And like the one in that video, are really good at destroying property. Gotta keep lots of dried beef/pork hide handy for them to chew on as puppies! lol

Strafforshire (sp) bull terriers run in the same vein as Boxers, Boston terriors, Jack Russells, and other terrior breeds... they are just the most misunderstood, overbred, and hated. They make excellent family dogs though, Teddy Roosevelt had them in the White house with him.

It is hard to have a dog that is overbred, and inbred and pits usually are. sad

They don't look the same at all. confuse I thought they were different dogs with the same ancestor or something. Maybe i'm wrong. :

A Bull Terrier is not the same as a Staffordshire Bull Terrier.

Staffies resemble Pits, stockier, shorter legs though, also minus the inbred evil streak.

HATE THESE DOG OWNERS. Everyone will come out of the woodworks that pits are great and they are fantastic owners and my guess is that most orgers are. However in the general world, these dogs are a replacement for some missing equation of manhood. Anyone who owns one is suspect to me. That's probably because in LA, you see thugs on the street with these godawful dogs.

Awful dogs, awful humans!

OK, flame away lol

Hey shuuuug! wave

Yes, a lot of folks get them to be hard, and make them hard by chaining them up all day, never walking them, and treating them like shit. And that's why they snap. What dog isnt mean when u don't take care of it? And most of these ghetto wanna be hard fuck tards aren't concerned how to train, they just want them in the house to be a bad ass.

It is a breed that needs waaay more training than most just because of their capabilities. and those fucknuts most likely got them from backyard breeders and they end up with inbred, crossbred, crazy pits!

THere is also the American Pit. Its ears are higher up on its head. I'm more partial to staffordshire though.

The Little Rascals' dog was a pit. In the old shows, and the newer movie that came out in the nineties. Petey was a pit!

Yeah when I learned many years ago that Petey was a Pit, I was shocked. Because of that circle around his eye...and his ears being unclipped I didn't recognize him. I personally think that people take away the beauty of Pits when they clip their ears. Still dont understand why folks clip the Pit's ears. Heck and Petey never mauled any of the Our Gang / Little Rascals kids to death. They all lived and walked away from that experience to other tradegies. Sidebar: The cast of the Little Rascals had even more tradgic lives than the cast from Different Strokes. They were all F'd up.

Now Rotties on the other hand appear more handsome to me with their ears clipped. I can see that Rotties ears and tail wagging give their temperament and mood away, so folks tend to clip them, that way you dont know if they are mad or happy. I really love Rotties, but at least I could see that there would be no way that a Rottie would have enough space to do his thing here. Those dogs can grow to be very very large over 100 pounds. Pits can grow from 30 pounds to about 85 pounds. My Step Mothers fat Pomeranian is 36 pounds. But in my opinion, Rotties can be the most gentle dogs.

I had someone do some plumbing work for me recently, he was out there for hours, and after he finished he took this huge rottie out of his truck and proceeded to walk her. I had no idea that she was sitting patiently in his truck the whole time.

Although I'm your biggest fan...I'm also your biggest critic. Can you deal with that?

We are getting a Rott next year. I've never had a Rott, but the husband has. The consensus I get is that they are very loving pets. But of course you have to take care of them. They are also a lot calmer than pits so they are better for being house dogs. Either way, you have to keep your dog active. When they aren't active or serving in some capacity, you create a nervous dog and in turn leave yourself open for biting.

For a long time pits were family dogs much like labs or golden retrievers are today. During the turn of the 20th century, it was very common for families to have pits. They were also used during WWI. American soldiers sent them out into trenches to make sure the coast was clear to advance. Then for some reason it became cool to make them mean.

I really have never experienced any other dog as needy for human affection as pits. We were a lab family growing up. I love labs, but they were never as big of babies as the pits I encountered. Also, we had a lab irish setter mix that bit my little sister - she was sent to a farm after that (the dog). We also had another lab that unfortunately bit my best friend when I was a teenager. He was sent off too.

Damn @ all the reports of people getting bit by Labs and Chows. I mean do the dogs just walk over to folks and bite them, or are they somehow unknowingly provoked. I guess when you have an entire family, the dog really only attaches to one or maybe a couple of family members, the rest of the family is just tolerated by the dog. I guess those are the victims. Sad to hear bite stories.

Really, the reason why those breeds need to be active and excerised is not necessarily to deter biting, but to deter destructive behavior and neurosis. No one wants to come home to a wrecked apartment, or chewed up couch. Thankfully, I've never been really bitten by a dog. I've been bitten to the bone by my cat. And I mean to the bone. I had some construction workers come over, and she hid in my closet, and I wanted her out of my closet so that she didnt get nervous and pee my shoes, I went to reach for her to take her out of the closet, and she bit the crap out of my hand.

Shock collar is based on the Learning Theory or Pavlovian Theory. Once the dog get's shocked a few times, it should reduce it's desire to participate in any activity that will cause another shock. Aren't those gateless doggie / cattle fences based on the same principle? Now if the dog continues to participate in an activity that caused the shock, doggie might not be too bright. So there should only be a limited amount of shocks given before the dog learns not to do it.

If used improperly, it can cause the dog to become aggressive. I have seen it happen. Make sure you get proper training before you use it.

I am surprised that the worker at the shelter suggested a shock collar before one that sprays air or a scented one.

confuse

There are less inhumane training/behavioural tools especially for a puppy.

Well right now, I'm still home with puppy, and we are working on separation anxiety, and what it means to "be quiet" and "not bark" and what it means not to eat my chihuahua. So I don't know if or when I'll need to use the shock collar, but it's good to know that it's out there.

To be honest, I was on a pitbull forum and I just read a story that makes me even wonder if I will ever house my dog outside. Some dude said that he sent his 2 dogs to his brothers home because his 3rd dog had puppies and his brother had a big yard for the 2 older dogs to run around in, so he figured that the pups would have more space with the 2 older dogs out of the home. Well although the brother's home was fenced in...two wild agressive pitbulls broke through his gate and attacked and killed this fella's two pits. Such a sad story. I would be devastated if I came home and found that my dog had been attacked by stray pits. And, it's not all that "fenced in" back there where a dog couldn't "jump" over the rod iron gate if they really wanted to. And I kept reading more and more stories about people's pits being attacked by wild pits. So at this point, I don't really know what my new plan is now. It seems to change each time I hear some frightening shyd.

Although I'm your biggest fan...I'm also your biggest critic. Can you deal with that?

Is that a Bishon Frise? If so I had one, but ironically eventhough the dog is touted as "hypo-allergenic" I was terribly allergic and it almost sent me to the ER on two occasions, so I had to rehome him. He was the most charming thing, really tried his best to please me just extremely jealous and suffered from the worst case of separation anxiety imaginable.

Dog obviously is a stuffed animal, but still.

I would've guessed a straight up Golden Retriever.

And yes, it is the best dog ever! We got ours 4 years ago and soon realized we'll never NOT have one. They're so wonderful.

Blame the folks who use them for fighting. They clip their ears so that they don't get chewed off during fights. It also makes them look more "menacing." I personlly like the ears natural. And yes, Petey was a Pit. I still think that with proper breeding and training Pits can make wonderful pets. I knew a physician who went to Africa to help erradicate smallpox. While she was there living with only a caretaker, he secured a Pit for their protection. When she returned to the states she bred them as pets. And yes, left alone without supervision. they would fight each other. One even ate a box of tacks!

Looks like I'm never really going to be able to leave this pit and this chihuahua out of their crates alone and unsupervised. Each day the pit gets more clever and demonstrates via rough play that she knows how to take this chihuahua out of this world. At first the pit was kind to the chihuahua, and then the chihuahua started instigating stuff with the pit. Now the pit has grown significantly in the last 2 weeks, and playfully puts her whole mouth around the Chi's spine, and HER NECK. Well since it appears that she's grasped that understanding of the death grip rather quickly and without any prompting, all it will take is one violent shake. I called the trainer, he said that they should remain separated for a few weeks, and that perhaps things will get better when they both get spayed (or neutered i forget which one is for the female). So now, they are both crated and only allowed out individually, which makes each of them extremely jealous when they see me giving affection to the other one. They both scream like they are being beaten when they see me pick up and hug the other. Good God!

Although I'm your biggest fan...I'm also your biggest critic. Can you deal with that?

Oh dear. That is close minded. Though I should have listened to TheVoid earlier when he said this thread was flame baiting.

No doubt, it sure is.

My sister in law feels the same way. She was attacked by one Friday while walking down the street excersising. Bit her on the leg and she said she was sure it was trying to get her to the ground. Luckily it didn't but it messed her leg up pretty bad.

If you're not doing the fucking, then you're taking one.
