Alright y'all, Trader Joes is going to be opening an outpost in the Upper West Side of Manhattan (my 'hood). I'm super excited because I know they have all sorts of yummy vegetarian stuff.

Right now, I think the only other one in NYC is in Union Square and I'm rarely down there. I'm glad to have one close even though I know it's going to be PACKED all the damn time. I wonder if they deliver?

Anyway, please post your favorite (VEGETARIAN) things from Trader Joes so that I have a list of things to try out when it opens.

I call them packagepalooza because of the excessive amount of packaging their products tend to have. It's almost like ordering something from amazon.com it's so bad. I wish they'd find a way to reduce that stuff. The prepackaged nonsense must make their brand enormous on the global environmental footprint scale.

I can't quite see your post, Dan. Anywhoo, I've been to Trader Joe's only a few times (one in Atlanta and I live in SC), but all their jams are awesome. Their multigrain tortilla chips are delicious with their corn chile salsa. I don't think I've ever bought any entrees from there.

I cannot live without their redpepper spread.

Thanks for letting me know. Recycling is mandatory in NYC, so if we buy from there, we'll recycle whatever we can.

I never noticed their packaging to be any different than any other store.

Their frozen stuff comes in bags just like at the regular market and spreads and such in jars just like other places too.

Do they have a lot of individual serving size wrapped stuff? Maybe that's what he's talking about.

They have lunch-type stuff by the deli products in individual sizes. But so does every other place.

I'm curious about what Dan is referring to cuz now I'm gonna be looking out for it.

But then again, Dan drinks heavily on his meds so wtf ever really knows what she's babblin about. He might think this thread is about cd packaging at Sam Goody's circa 1993.

They have awesome potstickers. I think they have both vegetable and chicken versions.

They rock, but I imagine I'll rarely go there because they'll be so insanely busy all the time. And I'm kind of loyal to Fareway anyway.

They have the best prices (I've seen) for nuts of pretty much any variety.

I hate Fareway! Do you go to the one on 74th? Grocery shopping in general stresses me out and so going somewhere crowded and cluttered makes me a nervous wreck. There is a little grocery on 77th and Broadway, called Westside Market, that is much better. It's open 24 hours and their produce is awesome most all of the time. It's less crowded than Fareway and the prices are good, too. I was just there the other day and they were having a sale on cauliflower -- 2 for $5 which is really cheap considering they are usually $4.99/head at the Food Emporium.

I'm actually going on a walking tour of Harlem tomorrow! It's supposed to be hot and humid and our tour starts at 1pm, I'm sure I'm going to melt.

Oh, If you're gonna buy the wheat bread, make sure you throw it in the fridge. It can get moldy fast..

Oh, did I mention the corn chile salsa? Seriously, try it. It's good. It is a tomato-less salsa (weird, huh?). If you buy it and don't like it, let me know. I'll send you your money back.

Yeah, I've found they're comparable to an "upper level" grocery store. They've got some really yummy/cool stuff in a single store that I would have to go to multiple other stores to find. I haven't eaten any of their produce, but it always looks fresh to me. Unfortunately, I don't have a Trader Joe's within about 100 miles of my house.

At my local Trader Joes here in Silverlake , the Produce section is not that expansive or interesting, although the store is expanding, so we may have more choices. You might be better off at your local Farmer's Market.

At my local Trader Joes here in Silverlake , the Produce section is not that expansive or interesting, although the store is expanding, so we may have more choices. You might be better off at your local Farmer's Market.

Ours doesn't have a huge produce section either. For that I go to our international market down the street. As well as for meats.

I mostly shop at Trader's for specific products they sell that either I can't get elsewhere or I prefer their brand or their price or all of the above.

I actually never do all the food shopping under one single roof. Over the course of the month I will get different things from International Market, Trader Joes, Giant (regular supermarket) and Costco.

I'm not sure -- since it's not actually open yet you can't link to the store on their website to see what they're going to have. It doesn't have hours yet, either. Does anyone know if they stay open 24 hours?

I want to drink daquiris by the pool.

It was my morning pool drink in Mexico. The banana made them breakfast-sy.

I freakin loooooove Trader Joes, that place rocks! Unfortunately, I don't go there too often, because there is not one that is really close to me. I only tend to buy snacks there, so I don't even know of any good vegetarian dishes.
