I freakin loooooove Trader Joes, that place rocks! woot! Unfortunately, I don't go there too often, because there is not one that is really close to me. I only tend to buy snacks there, so I don't even know of any good vegetarian dishes. hmmm

I like snacks! biggrin What do you buy?

Are they going to have a wine store at that location too? Because that would be awesome. I used to love their cheap (but still good) wine selection.

I'm not sure -- since it's not actually open yet you can't link to the store on their website to see what they're going to have. It doesn't have hours yet, either. Does anyone know if they stay open 24 hours?

No TJ"s location stays open 24 hours, sadly.

These are DANGEROUS...

They actually aren't the best pralines (far too sugary coating). But I've never been able to eat one of these without destroying almost the entire container.

I can't quite see your post, Dan.lol Anywhoo, I've been to Trader Joe's only a few times (one in Atlanta and I live in SC), but all their jams are awesome. Their multigrain tortilla chips are delicious with their corn chile salsa. I don't think I've ever bought any entrees from there.

confuse

I never noticed their packaging to be any different than any other store.

Their frozen stuff comes in bags just like at the regular market and spreads and such in jars just like other places too.

It's not that it's any different than going to a super target or anything like that. But, they're promoted as a socially and ethically responsible company; and, to me packaging is important. I'd rather go to a local farmers market and bring my own canvas bag and make my own food from scratch than buy a prepackaged item that's heavily packaged.

It just feels high-brow and gimmicky to me. It's one of those things I think a lot of people pat themselves on the back for being into, but ultimately doesn't really do much for the environment.

That being said, most folks are just looking for nice stuff--not to make a statement. lol

Alright y'all, Trader Joes is going to be opening an outpost in the Upper West Side of Manhattan (my 'hood). I'm super excited because I know they have all sorts of yummy vegetarian stuff.

Right now, I think the only other one in NYC is in Union Square and I'm rarely down there. I'm glad to have one close even though I know it's going to be PACKED all the damn time. I wonder if they deliver?

Anyway, please post your favorite (VEGETARIAN) things from Trader Joes so that I have a list of things to try out when it opens.

biggrin

There is one in Brooklyn Heights.

Every time I go to Brooklyn, I get lost. Do not like the Brooklyn. Plus Union Square is closer to me; but still too far. I have a rule that I won't go more than 10 blocks for groceries, and I think that's even pushing it. I don't want to carry them on the subway or bus. The whole point of living in New York is so you can have everything you need at your fingertips! biggrin

Brooklyn is a pretty big place and one can get lost. But, that's what I like about it. I was at the Brooklyn, Trader Joe's today. Their Chai Tea, is awesome!

The eggplant/roasted red pepper stuff?

Oh my crunchy granola, that shit is DELICIOUS.

I used to buy their Tuscan Pane bread, a jar of eggplant/red pepper spread, a container of olive tapenade, and a six pack of Frugal Joe's Ordinary Beer. Go home, sit at the kitchen table and eat half a loaf of bread, alternating the spreads and washing it down with the beer.

We don't have any TJ's here.
