Org College Football Fans - Big Changes are Coming!

USC gets hit with a two-year bowl ban, Nebraska to the Big Ten, four mega-conferences on the way. Lot of shit going down.

Yea i don't like what's going down with the Big 12. It was a competitive conference on

it's on. Nebraska leaving a better conference to join a weaker one. It must be all about

money. Colorado leaving to go to the Pac 10. The Big 12 needs to work fast to save it's

conference.

What's your favorite college favorite football team Uptown?

Money's fueling this whole thing, nothing else. Don't buy the bs the NCAA feeds you.

Don't have a favorite team(it's not like we have a big-time program in NYC). smile But I do watch the conference tourneys and the bowls.

I'm worried as to what effect these moves will have on the basketball conferences, especially my favorite, the Big East.

I keep hearing the Big Ten's making a huge play for Notre Dame. That will have a serious ripple effect if it goes down.

My relatives their never talk about college football. It's always about the Jets, Giants,

Yankees, and the knicks.

Nebraska is confirmed for the Big ten, which I guess is now the new Big 12..the old big 12 is no more..now the big ten can have east/west division and possibly a championship game...

Notre Dame would've been a better choice, but ND probably still thinks it's too big (greedy) to join a conference.

Looks like all the major Texas teams are going to the PAC 10. What is this going to do to the women's basketball programs? That is all I am really concerned about. What happened to USC ?

The Big Ten isn't done courting schools yet. They still want Notre Dame, but ND doesn't want to give up its TV football contract with NBC. Otherwise, they would have already joined either the Big East or Big Ten. (They are already in the Big East for all other sports.) Short of that, they would love to get Texas into the conference (hook 'em horns horns ) but it's a longshot, and there's probably no way Texas joins the Big Ten without Texas A&M and Texas Tech and probably even Baylor, which if that happened would most likely exclude Notre Dame. Besides, Pittsburgh, Rutgers, and Missouri are trying feverishly to join the Big Ten.

ND football is their cash cow and they won't share that revenue...Pitt and Mizzou would be a nice fit..two 7 team divisions.. championship at Ford Field..I like it

to be honest i thought this punsihment was kinda harsh i mean Bush lost his Heisman Trophy for goodness sakes disbelief this is going to be a pretty tough 2 years for USC their going to lose alot of great players because i also heard that they were losing scholorship money and why play when your banned from the bowl? and plus this incident happened 4 years ago idk that just doesnt seem right to me neutral

Yep, we're gong to have four mega-conferences(Pac-10, Big 10, SEC, ACC) with their own championship game, and maybe a four-team playoff system. We could seeing the end of the NCAA as we know it.

This is huge. College football is bigger than anyone of else ever thought. With USC's situation, that was a shocker. I mean, not because of the problems and out of control behavior by USC but the actual penalty..dang!! But those of us who have watched USC football over the years know, the Trojans will be back stronger than ever. Hopefully this wake-up call by the NCAA gets the attention of the USC coaches, fans, alumni, and friends. But glad to see the mega moves by some of the heavyweights of college football make their moves. And USC will be ok.

Notre Dame is going to wake up in two weeks and figure out they're on an island.

Big Ten commissioner Jim Delaney has screwed everyone else, especially us fans.

Bummer.

Yeah, with so much money to be made, this was inevitable. But it hurts the schools with solid basketball programs. Being a Big East fan, I'd hate to see Syracuse, Pitt and West Virginia leave.

I was reading that Nebraska gets 10 million from the Big 12 as part of their share..but by joining the Big 10..they'll get 20 million because of the Big 10 network... That's big bucks

It stopped being amateur once the big network loot started rolling in. Let's stop the pretense - college football/basketball players are semi-pros. A free minor league system for the NFL and NBA.

This is what the whole rush to expansion is all about in the first place. nod All of the experts were talking about how the Southeastern Conference (SEC), Big XII, and Pac-10 were superior athletic conferences to the Big Ten, yet the Big Ten always drew in more viewers. And once they teamed up with FOX to form their own network, they landed serious money. pimp2 The other conferences, seeing what happened with the Big Ten and their TV deal, knew they had to land their own lucrative TV contracts. The SEC negotiated with ESPN to land their own lucrative syndication deal and renegotiated their TV football contract with CBS to get nearly as much as the Big Ten. The Pac-10 TV contracts are up for renegotiation next year, so they are feverishly trying to expand with high profile schools to land their own mega-money deal. The ACC will obviously have to follow suit, and the Big East will have to somehow manage to get Notre Dame into their football conference, or they may cease to exist as a football conference, with the ACC, Big Ten, and/or SEC poaching off their best schools.

^^^ I think it started with Notre Dame. Look at the sweet set-up they have with NBC as an independent. If they go to the Big Ten, the damn will burst. We're talking stupid money!

The Big 12 commissioner is trying to workout a deal to keep the remaining schools in the Big 12. The commissioner is trying to offer a TV deal similar to the SEC's deal..

As someone who grew up in Iowa, but on the western side, just 40 miles from Nebraska, this is a travesty! lol You either rooted for Iowa or Iowa State, but never Nebraska! They were the ultimate enemy; and now to have them in the Big 10 is barf. It was bad enough when Penn State joined in 1990, but now that there are 12 teams in the Big 10 will it be the Big 12? And will the Big 12 go back to being the Big 8 since Nebraska and Colorado have left? Iowa State, Baylor and KState might be in trouble -- they are not really strong enough to bring anything to the Big 12, which is pretty sucky now that CO and Nebraska are gone.

First increasing the number of teams in the NCAA Men's Basketball tourney, now this. disbelief It really is just about money.

I hope so because they really were a decent conference. The key will be keeping

Texas, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, OU, and OSU.

I read one article that had the Texas schools going to the Pac-10.

Shockingly, Texas has decided not to join the Pac-10, instead teaming up with the remaining Big XII schools and forming its own TV newtork. (Or should it now be called the Big X (10)? What becomes of the Big Ten? Does it now become the Big 12? Or Big Twelve? Or Big Ten plus two?)

Meanwhile, just as Boise State announced that it was leaving the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) to join the Mountain West Conference (MWC). Utah is now leaving the MWC to join the Pac-10, in what will probably result in being renamed the Pac-12.

So all the Big 12 had to do was throw money at Texas. Imagine that!

The big winners IMHO are the schools in the Big 12 that no one wanted - Kansas, K State, Baylor, Iowa State. If their conference had disintegrated, it looked like they were going to be left out in the cold.
