Karate Kid

I think the new Karate Kid movie has such the potential to be an awesomely fantastic movie, or a total embarassment. I hope it turns out to be the first, because I loved that movie as an adolescent. The cute little kid (Jaden Smith - Will Smith's son) being instructed by Jackie Chan is a potentially awesome combination if written and directed well. I hope that it really turns out good.
Although I'm your biggest fan...I'm also your biggest critic. Can you deal with that?

I noticed your signature phrase by Bruce Lee. Bruce Lee was my favoite. Interesting how the very best always seem to be taken away from us so soon.

He's mine too. thumbs up! I'm Water, just like he metaphorically said we should be. smile Jackie Chan is third on my list (with Van Damme being second love). Therefore, I'm gonna get tickets early and be in a theater the day this movie opens. dancing jig

Great link, thanks for sharing. I think Jaden will be a very special child indeed. For some reason eventhough I do not know Will and Jada, I "trust" them (especially Will) with their son. So I am hoping and trusting that he is a well balanced kid. Good for him.

I normally don't like movie remakes, but this movie looks like it will be great!!

Jaden Smith is such a cutie and he was great with Will in "The Pursuit of Happyness".

Never liked the original so I might not be biased about this one.

Plus, I'm hearing GOOD things about it from people who are basically pleased with almost NOTHING(esp when it fucks with their nostalgic sentiments) lol

It better be as good as I hoped or else Ralph Macchio is gonna have some crap to say. It would be good if they gave him a small cameo in the flick, kinda like Stan Lee takes in all of his flicks.

At first I had no interest since I never got into the original one, but after seeing so many of the trailers it's peeked my interest, I'll be seeing it.

He could be the next Ernie Reyes Jr.

Arguably the coolest former child star fucking ever.

And I caught one of his ISKA fights on ESPN 12 or whatever and he kicked a fucker out between the ropes.

Definition of badass. What Mickey Rourke hoped he would be. And still pretty.

Other than the title, it does not really seem 2 be a remake as much as a silimiar story line.

I am not sure, the coat on coat off bit and the the bit with the fly and the kid moving to the new city... seems to be a bit too simular. But then again the first 2 may just be nods to the original and what else would the rest of the plot be about?

I'm so completely sick of Jaden's parents, I have NO INTEREST in seeing this movie. The "Kid" already seems full of himself.

If u have zero elements from the 1st movie ther would be no point 2 using the title.

I understand that. And like i said it kind of has to be about the outsider that gets beat up and then learns from someone unexpected. As far as the coat/wax on/off and the fly gags, the fact that BOTH of them are in the previews concerns me. But I will check it out, when it is $1 in the red box.

What I think is happening is the studios, both TV and Movies own the titles to all these old movies and by remaking them they keep the cost in the studios. Cause really there is no need for a karate Kid remake nor a Dukes of Hazzard remake, Creativity in Hollywood is dead due to the bottom line.

I don't know...from the little I've seen of him, I like his demeanor. I don't know how he sounds during conversation, but to only be 11, he seems to have an advanced mentality, which is great. His life is SET, no matter what craft he chooses, so if he's mentally precocious (which he seems to be, I'm not sure), I hope he doesn't ever get caught up with stupid people/stuff in the future like most other celebrity children, and focuses on being an inevitable movie star, or whatever field he ends up doing.

Oh, and I also hope he grows to be tall like his father. lol

Creativity in Hollywood may in fact be dead. But it's always good to see fresh new talent "perhaps" being able to "do it better" than the original folks. Had a movie about martial arts been created with a old wise man schooling a little kid on the art, folks would have automatically said "Oh they stole that theme from the Karate kid". So why not just beat the naysayers to the punch and just call it the Karate Kid. Remember "Batman Begins" was much better any any of those other weak Batman flicks of the late 80's and early 90's. The Dark Knight was the best. So, just because someone "borrows a title and a theme" does not diminish the potential creativity involving the flick.
