iPhone wasn't really an option for me. ATT's network bites along the highway between where I live and where I work. Since I have neither the time nor the inclination to try to figure out how to untether an iPhone, Droid was a logical choice. I no longer have iPhone envy, but am not going to fight over whether it's better at anything.

We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

The Apple Keynote is happening as I type this.

So far:

1) iPhone OS 4 / multi-tasking

2) Camera records HD video

3) retina display the sharpest on any phone on the market / display on the presentation shows an amazing difference.

4) introduction of gyro into to phone making motion sensitivity unparalleled by any phone.

5) Camera 5.x megapixel

6) iMovie movie editor ON THE DAMNED PHONE. omfg excited. This means you can record HD video and compile and edit the movie with themes, transitions, and titles (like on the mac) and upload it to youtube (or wherever) without every needing a computer. The demo for this is amazing. It looks similar to the desktop iMovie (which I absolutely love), but on a phone! omg

......keynote still going on and they're not even close to done yet.

Is AT&T coverage decent anywhere in WI? From what I've heard from people, if you live anywhere north of Janesville it starts to take a crap lol

if nothing else, apple has better marketing. I can't imagine another company's product that people cheer in triumph for the privilege of buying...maybe a tickle me Elmo? Saw footage of a guy with an iPad coming out of the store, literally hands over his head raising the box like it was the new lion king.

I hate the droid commercials almost as much as the Windows 7 ones.

I would say that if it was just marketing than Microsoft would be on top by now with Zune, etc. etc.

They had a handheld device similar to a tablet long before Apple did---I can't even remember the name of thing, but it was codenamed 'Ginger', and debuted about 3 or 4 years ago to much fanfare.

The thing about Apple is that they don't always introduce a feature (multitasking for one) into their products right away, but when they do, they do it right. Apple's solution to multi-tasking will not drain the battery nearly as quickly as competing platforms.

I'm not saying iPHone is superior to Android. I actually quite like Android.

But folks who keep poo pooing Apple products crack me up. lol

THey make products that work, products that are solid, and products that their consumers are happy with--this isn't a halo effect nor a form of brainwashing. But the fact that I can own a laptop for 4 years with no slowdowns, no issues, and no viruses is something I personally perceive to be valuable. I can't think of any Apple owners who have the same levels of dissatisfaction as PC users. There are almost weekly threads here on the org alone bemoaning issues with their PCs.

I won't go so far as to say Windows sucks (I like WIndows 7 actually), but where the hatred of Apple products comes from bewilders me. They make great products. Their customers are mostly happy. That's value.

true, but they should work better, Apple is expensive...the computers, at least.

I actually use both, Apple at work, PC at home, and I use XP and have never had an issue with it in like 7 years. No virus, no crashing, no breakdowns, no compatability issues (as I have had with OS 9-X conversions). They both work well for me.

But the overall design of apple products is cleaner & sexier. Mac is like driving a Mercedes--not necessarily better or more reliable than a Toyota, but it's smoother & the seat is more comfortable.

video calling just introduced. Appears to work great with good sound and video quality.

Currently works only wi-fi but allows the iPhone to be used for video calling using

a feature called 'Facetime', which only requires you to make a phonecall to activate.

The keynote shows two presumed deaf people having a 'phone' conversation via sign language. lol

Looks like I may forgo my disgust that they've opted not to support Flash for this generation iPhone. It's just too sexy.

My macbook was around a thousand bucks, and at the time a similarly equipped windows laptop was only marginally cheaper. Now, I'm lucky because I'm a IT guy and can build my own PCs, etc. so I support my PCs whenever shit hits the fan--but with folks who can't do that, they could spend hundreds in maintenance costs.

yeah I fix my own PC, too, but when one of our G4's busted a power supply it was like brain surgery to remove it and a replacement would have been like $250 as opposed to a $50 one for a PC. So we ended up getting a new computer.

This is why I sprung for Applecare. When my mother board fizzled, they replaced it for free because of Applecare.
