FINALLY!! The First Avenger: Captain American uniform concept This is looking sweet. I love how the red straps act as the red stripes on his abdomen: Sorry if the pics are too big.

Looks cool. Ever since the X-Man franchise chose to play down the colorfiul spandex look, I've wondered how other comic book movies would approach costuming without looking either like an X ripoff or high camp.
Here, theyve kept true to the character's book appearance, but they've made it less ridiculous in realtime by giving the costume elements functionality. Smart. Ὅσον ζῇς φαίνου

Agreed! It's very well done! I'm firmly planted in denial

I'm really feeling it. At first, I was reading rumors it would look something like the one from the 70's movie.

Thank God they didn't do the "all black in leather outfit to modernize them" shit they've done in the past with other superhero movies "We may deify or demonize them but not ignore them. And we call them genius, because they are the people who change the world."

I've always thought Cap America looked like a really bright bullseye for the enemy.

Yep, excellent job. Cap's costume in the comics would look real goofy on film(as we've seen with the ears showing). This is nice. Can't wait for The Avengers.
Is there a link for this?

But what works in the comics sometimes doesn't work on film(like Wolverine's blue & yellow spandex).

Now THIS I'm hating. Looks like some cheap adult Halloween costume.
They should've gone for simple Viking noble, but maybe bleached his hair/beard more and done something inky and flowing with his cape (like in Spawn) to communicate his divinity. [Edited 6/3/10 16:53pm] Ὅσον ζῇς φαίνου

I thought they were gonna do the same for Dragonball Evolution but they didn't
Either way, I knew the movie was gonna suck gnome testicles and I was right "We may deify or demonize them but not ignore them. And we call them genius, because they are the people who change the world."

True. And, yeah, I didn't mind the X-Men treatment. The almost Matrix-y "secret agent" look of the team made them seem somewhat more believable given the fantastic subject matter. I thought it was clever. But I did wonder how other comic films would handle this without completely copying that approach or coming off looking like silly children's flicks. I was hoping that they would just do armor-type versions of their comic costumes. I liked how each costume was personalized to each X-Men. I would have LOVED that. I really didn't dig the black leather thing. It made them look too "covert" and they really weren't.

i know the "A" is iconic and all, but it is the only thing i dont like about the costume.

Two wardrobes I did regret were Storm's and Jean's after her morph into Dark Phoenix. Thoughout the films, I thought EVERYTHING about Hallie's look was wrong, from the hair to her street clothes to her uniform. Famke Jansen's stuff I could deal with through the first two films, but I HATED that matronly red crap they put her in in X3. I'd have dressed her somewhat similarly to the first two films, but probably gone full-on CGI and set her butt completely on raging fire -- like Selma Blair in Hellboy x 100 -- at the end of the third film! Most peeps I know get into comix when young. So people flying, santa claus, spandex suits; almost everything is believable.
It's only when people grow up that spandex does not look real good on everybody and that Santa doesn't excist. So I always wondered about fanboys crying murder when they changed Wolferine's outfit. What did they expect?
So I am all for suit make-over, as long as they're cool and true to the spirit of the hero. So, Capt America gets a thumbs up. >>

That's what they need to do with Wonder Woman. The bathing suit would not work on the big screen.

I like the costume, but that dude needs to bulk up. Thor's as strong as the Hulk - not as big, but big enough.

Now WW's costume has really worried me. I agree it'll be very tough to translate it to screen. Even as she's supposed to be the epitome of a self-empowered woman of the world, her outfit has always screamed sex toy for the hypernationalist American male. Toward fixing that, her costume would need to be true to its iconic appearance; functional as much as presentational; a bit more coincidentally rather than consciously "American" and celebrate the beauty of her athletic feminiine physique while not looking like something from a July 4 Playboy centerfold.
This fan concept is perhaps the best Ive seen...

Wonder Woman is second only to Supes in raw power, so she really has to look kick-ass. That outfit's a nice start, but I'd give her more battle armor on her arms and legs, based on ancient Greek designs. Joss Whedon talked about doing that before he pulled out of the project.
And WW has to be tall and muscular, but still feminine-looking.

Apparently, Jeremy Renner is going to play Hawkeye in the Avengers movie. I'm liking that a lot.
