Crimes: A man almost kills his dog by hitting it in the head with a hammer while it is tight to a stick. A man puts on dog´s neck and feet stones and throws it into a lake. A man tries to kill his dog by hitting it agains the tree in a park. When he sees someone coming, he throws its body into a grass and runs away. A woman finds it, takes it to the vet and then to the shelter. The dog is locked in a cage shiverring for days with eyes red of blood. These are some of the things that happened over here in the couple of past weeks. Punishment: If a dog bites someone, it is killed. In the above cases, the punishment may be a fine maybe, in a better case few months behind the bars. In the first case, the police is filing a report to have the dog taken away from the owner. Filing a report to have it taken away?!? Isn´t it irony that a man, allegedly the most intelligent creature in the world that should be aware of his/her actions, gets minimum punishment for the cruelest crimes, while the "lower" creatures get a death sentence? When will such crimes be punished as similar crimes comitted against humans? I do realize that we kill animals for food and that it might be tough to set the boundaries as to when it is OK to kill or hurt an animal and when not, but just because it is difficult, it shouldn´t be ignored or treated as offence or something similar.

Yeah, these are some of the things, I´ve heard on TV in the past 2 or 3 weeks.

I get what you're saying.

Man kills/beats/starves/neglects animal, basically gets slap on the wrist.

Dog bites, it gets put down.

Many would claim that there are not enough resources to deal with the crimes against non-human life.

I would argue that if man were held accountable for harm done to any living creature, or better yet, taught respect for all living creatures, there would be hope for lessening Man's inhumanity to Man.

But that's just me.
