at abotu 2 or 3 in the morning i was acosted by two dudes,
long story short, in the 10 to 12 minits that i spent defending my life (on a major thuroughfare), people slowed down and watched, or just kept going.
TRUE... they could have been chastising me for some offence, but i was being attacked.
the person who did call the cops worked in a gas station
and i went back to him and gave him $20 for his troubles,
although he was skeptical about why i was lookin for him.
I AM King BAD a.k.a. BAD,

It is actually impossible to answer this question honestly. You cannot say until you are placed in that situation and the vast majority of people will say that they would jump right in there, thus making themselves look like a "good" and "caring" person who would not let someone harm another person.

Until you find yourself in the situation, you will never know how you will respond.

Well put

whether it just be calling the police or actually stepping in i would definately try to help in some way...after working for Saint John ambulance i think it may be a natural immediate reaction to assist...

They once showed this hidden camera thing on tele where they had 2 kids (15 or so) beating up a parked car in a very busy street. The police was in on it, so they let it happen. Anyweez, although many people called the cops, not one of them adressed the kids in more than 15 mins.

A few years back in highschool this guy from my class tried 2 help a younger kid that was bullied by group of 14-16yr olds on his way 2 school. The younger kid got away, but my classmate was beaten in2 hospital.

It's a shamefull thing, but i would prolly do very little in a similar situation.

I once tried to pull a "friend" off of another guy in a bar fight. They were drunk and it was just plain stupid. (This guy had been trying to hit on both me and another friend of mine and my "friend" decided that wasn't OK. They were both just a couple of jerks.) In the melee, I got punched in the eye. I ended up in the emergency room at 6 the next morning cause I couldn't sleep it hurt so badly. I had a scratched cornea. I had to wear an eye patch for 24 hours and they took x-rays to make sure my eye socket wasn't fractured. My eye eventually healed, but I swear it's now a slightly different shape than my other eye. No one probably notices this, but it bothers me to no end.

I've never stepped in the middle of anything again, and probably wouldn't unless it was a serious situation with a loved one.

I HAVE, however, called the police a few times when I've seen violence going on. I just can't stand to see that stuff happen.

Therapy

I suppose there are instincts of survival, fight or flight, where if jumping in there posed a threat to ones own survival, then I think the instincts of fear say what to do. I do think there are ways even if not getting personally physically involved, that help can be given. Calling the fuzz for example. It makes no sense to jump in there if I'm gonna get hurt too... I really think the instinct help guide such situations, yet, there's no guarentee even if it feels safe, tha it will be safe to step in.
