Venus Williams wears a racy dress in French Open debut

If things don't go well for Venus Williams at the French Open perhaps she can find some work at the famous Parisian Moulin Rouge.

The seven-time Grand Slam champion wowed the crowd at Roland Garros on Sunday by wearing a lacy, black overlay giving it the illusion of being see-through, and bright red trim on the bodice during her first-round match against Patty Schnyder. Despite looking more like she was auditioning for a spot at a 19th century cabaret than playing in the year's second Grand Slam event, Venus won with ease, 6-3, 6-3. She wore a similar can-can style outfit earlier this year in Miami.

Venus said the look was all about "illusion," but didn't state whether she'd wear it again during the tournament. Typically, she says, she comes to a match with eight to 10 outfits.

I've seen sexier lingerie on transvestites.

So the woman wants to wear cocktail apparel to play tennis. That's a woman's prerogative. I don't think that dress is racy at all.

The red piping looks awful. She shoul've kept it all black. I do like where they're going with tennis fashion though.

its not as bad as that dress shw wore to awards show last year.

Playing in the French Open does not require dressing as a French whore.

What I dislike most about it is that thew shoes are white . If she chooses to wear such an outfit couldn't they make black tennis shoes for her too?
And IMO it must feel terrible to sweat in that lace material .

Isn't this the headline every year at the French Open?

It's not always Venus, but someone is always pushing the fashion boundary there.

Who was the poor girl that had to get the reduction cause she was Punky Brewsterin em out there?

I don't think it was racy but it sure is ugly.

I do have to admire the engineering that went into the dress, though. That she didn't fall out of it is some kind of miracle.
