Family Vacations: Yay or Nay?

At one time, it used to be "yay", but now, that has turned into a "nay". I used to consider myself to be family oriented, but I don't feel that way so much anymore, due to the obnoxious behavior of some immediate family members.
RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.

The last time the subject of a family vacation came up, my kin were talking about renting a houseboat on Lake Powell. I told them, "No offense, but I'd rather slit my wrists with a rusty razor than be trapped on a boat with you people."

That kind of ended the discussion. lol
We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

falloff I know what you mean. Sometimes too much togetherness can be not a good thing.

Don't get me wrong - I love my family and they can be a blast to be around. But we all tend to be very outspoken and when alcohol is involved (and it always is), things get crazy. Not violent crazy, just stupid crazy.

A few summers ago, I went out on a boat with my sister, her husband and kids just for the afternoon. If the lake hadn't been so choppy that day, I'd've jumped overboard and swum ashore. They couldn't stop bickering and picking at each other for even one second. disbelief

It was shortly after that that I made the "rusty razor" comment. lol

Believe me, I understand how tough certain family members can be. That's terrible that your sister and her family were picking at each other all day. I don't blame you for wanting to get away from them; I would feel the exact same way.

If someone else is paying, then a big HELL YEAH. When I was in college, my folks told me they would pay for a 5-day Caribbean cruise if I wanted to go with them. That was a HELL YEAH since I didn't have to pay. But had I had to pay, then no. If I/we have to pitch in on paying for the joint, then it depends where and for how long. To the beach? Yeah, probably so. Just about anywhere else? Not so much.

A 5-day Caribbean cruise sounds like fuuuuun. I have never been on a cruise, but would love to take one some day. The beach would be my first choice for a vacation as well.

Lots of fun both on and off the ship. I highly recommend trying at least one. That was the first and only one I've ever been on, and I would like to go again in the future. I think they're pretty cheap right now, too.

Thanks for the scoop. I definitely will have to go on a cruise (hopefully not too far off in the future). smile
