Yeah, they always give eight Oscars (including Best Picture) to the "not great" films. lol Yeah, I was underwhelmed, even though I enjoyed it. But I know ONLY the best movie of the year EVER wins Best Picture. I don't want you to think like me. I just want you to think.

One of my all time favourites - It showed me what I was looking for. I vividly remember my older brother getting me out of bed to come and watch this fim ' with guys kissing!' and I had to pretend to be disgusted whilst concealing the boner in my pyjamas. I'm still looking, however.

I'm more of a Director (Lynch, Scorcesse, Kurosawa) fan more then anything else, and I went on a Michael Powell marathon a few months ago (thanks Netflix):
The Life and Death of Colonel Blimp Stairway To Heaven (amazing cinematography!) The Red Shoes (ditto!) Black Narcissus (ditto again!) Peeping Tom ( similar movie to Psycho which came out the same year) I need to re-watch his The Thief of Baghdad which I last saw when I was a kid which mesmerized me back then. All of these are on Blu-Ray or will be soon, btw. I currently have the French film, Children of Paradise, on my DVD player,I'll watch that soon.

Pretty much anything by Douglas Sirk, actually - The aforementioned Imitation of Life, plus Magnificent Obsession and All That Heaven Allows, for starters. (Rock Hudson - need I say more?) All That Heaven Allows is the movie that Far From Heaven (Julianne Moore) is based on. Elizabeth Taylor films - Butterfield 8, Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, and The Last Time I Saw Paris. Suddenly Last Summer and A Place in the Sun (both with Montgomery Clift). Bringing Up Baby. Cary Grant in a maribou-trimmed peignoir, yelling, "I just suddenly went GAY all of a sudden." Whatever Happened to Baby Jane - Bette Davis and Joan Crawford. Ask johnart about this one - it's one of his faves. Grey Gardens - the documentary. Although the HBO movie is pretty fab, too. I suck at being gay. I haven't seen any of those.

I first met him in 2001, when he was acting in and I was an understudy for a play with the local repertory theatre. He came to the show I was in last month and just gushed over my performance. It was a little embarrassing, actually - I don't think I was that good. But it was very sweet of him. Have you seen Billy's Hollywood Screen Kiss? He's in that, too. (He plays Perry.)
