Exactly. We're so used to helping others from outside the U.S. but we're not that quick into helping our own. rolleyes That's why New Orleans took a while to get its footing following Hurricane Katrina. It's tragic to see what happened to Nashville. For those living over there, God bless you and hope you get the help you deserve. You truly don't deserve this. sad

It really hasn't been getting a lot of press. A lot of my friends in other states only know because of Facebook. I mentioned the flood in my other thread about my new baby. sad I NEVER thought I would see something like this in Nashville. I was in Ohio at the time of the flood in 1979.

Thanks for the prayers everyone.

This reminds me of an interview with a Katrina survivor who waited days to be rescued, watching people die all around him. He was a big, grown man in tears, sobbing, "We rush to help other countries any time they need it. Where was our help? We're Americans, man!" It was just heart-wrenching to see and hear.
It's what you make it.

Actually my aunt has been talking about it on Facebook, but she's in Atlanta and said they hadn't gotten it as bad as other places, so I didn't know how bad it was in Nashville.

the whole situation is saddening...the death toll in TN, KY and MS was 29 the last I read (that's likely to increase after the water recedes in flooded areas)...property damage will be astronomical...future economic impact on Nashvilles tourism industry will be great...

I can only imagine how much musical history has been lost as well... sad

And Americans of all races too. You can see that residents of this so-called "great" country think that all American troops/guardsmen or whoever often help other countries but neglect to help their own. It's sick.

How much of Tennessee's National Guard are serving in Iraq? They probably don't have the resources. That is a big issue in this country. sadly.

I'm not a fan of politics anyway. It's about keeping the people of America safe. And as far as I know the government in all of its incarnations have not done that real well.

Thank you guys for extending your love to my neighbors. I live in Nashville, but I'll claim Kentucky as neighbors right now, too. We need each other.

I can't speak for other areas, but the volunteer response from our fellow citizens in Nashville has been nothing short of amazing. I guess we're not called The Volunteer State for nothing! Little to no looting to speak of...the citizens of Nashville came together to save our last standing water treatment plant by sandbagging it on Monday. Our inmates filled the sandbags, and volunteers stacked them up. The treatment plant was saved by less than a foot. We're taking care of our own, but a helping hand from our fellow Americans couldn't hurt. That's why I came.

As for the question of "what has the Bible Belt done to deserve this?" I don't even know how to respond to something so hurtful. I'm not a religious person, but it doesn't matter - that question hurts. I didn't do anything to deserve this and neither did my family, but I can promise you that I'll be a better person for this and so will many of my loved ones.

I'd also like to thank the person who made this a sticky. The past few days have been full of tears, but as I sit here tonight they are tears of the best kind. The kind that comes from the little bits of love sent in from all over the world.

Times are tough, but better times are ahead. The music will keep on playing.

I only found out by watching Sports Center when they showed LP Field where
the Titans play flooded. Then i researched the net. I've yet to hear
about it on the major news outlets. My prayers go out to all that are
affected by it.

Yeah, it wasn't the time or the place for me to wonder out loud but I'm gay and scapegoated by southern politics so I was just askin the same question that is projected on my community when things go bad.

Hope you and yours recover from this and I'm glad to hear that you will come from it a better person smile

Crazy Pat Robertson will probably blame this one on the fact that Nashville is too culturally diverse now. I mean, our Governor is a democrat... so we were just asking for it. I knew where you coming from and sympathize with your reasoning for it. I'm glad you understand how it hurt and I thank you for extending your hope.

Thanks for the info, I'll be watching. When Hurricane Wilma tore up S. Fla. we got totally eclipsed when Katrina hit N.O. a few days later, so I know what you mean...the larger death toll tends to get the most attention.

I will be donating to the local Second Harvest Food Bank and praying for everyone affected. pray
