Anybody else on here a craft beer enthusiast?

It seems most beer geeks are into metal, I seem to be one of the few that is into more mellow music. Beer is a huge hobby for me, almost more than music. I love nothing more than traveling and trying as many new beers as possible. Im fortunate in living in Northern Indiana, I have access to so many great breweries. The only better place would be California or Belgium. Damn you Belgians and your ability to get Westvleteren!!

Anybody else like a good brew? If so what are your digging right now? And I don't mean Heineken or Stella or Guinness..

Me, me! I like a lot of the mass produced beers when comes to just drinking beer for the sake of drinking beer. But if I want to sip one and taste all it has to offer, I'll go with the "little guys." Currently, I'm digging the Left Hand Milk Stout. It's a bit expensive (at least for me), at about $12 per 6 pack.

Guinness is SWILL!

That is what non-beer drinkers drink when the do not know what good beer is.

I recommend

and of the 'Brasserie De L'Abbaye Des Rocs' brews (Triple Impériale)

or

St. Bernardus (particularly St. Bernardus Abt 12)

For you I would suggest the Duvel. 4 pack is about $13 or $14

and it is a SLOW pour that you will want to drink out of a beer glass. Some of the packs come with a glass. Its price is worth it if for nothing else the 8% alcohol content.

Just a disclaimer, those two are entirely different beers. Belgians can be a bit hard for some people to get into, due to the yeast used. I happen to love Duvel, as well as Gulden Draak, all of the Chimay's and many other Belgians.

I dig the Milk Stout. Have you ever had Young's Double Chocolate Stout? Relatively inexpensive and along those lines. Tastes like an alchoholic version of Nestle Quik.

Cheers

I do like most pale ales, except the rye pale ales. Not a big fan of those. I have not tried the Young's Double Chocolate Stout. In fact, I've never heard of it before. I'll have to check it out, too.

Yeah I realized that I needed to note it was a Belgian Strong Pale Ale and not a stout. My reason for it the recommendation it is I think it is a good change of pace from the stouts and is a good into into the belgiums from the stouts.

it is a bit complex--but I have faith he will love it. If not that then maybe one of the dark abby ales might help bridge the gap. But those can be hard to find in the smaller bottles.

But your recommendation of the young's double Chocolate is good-surprisingly good for its price. it is a very fine beer. But I would not have compared it ever to Nestle Quik. It certainly has a chocolate taste but it is not overpowering and more of a bitter (but bitter in a good way) roasted almond flavor. The smell is more chocolaty than the taste.

there is also a Samuel Adams Chocolate Bock but it not as good and it cost more. the bottle looks cool but for taste and over all experience the young's is hard to beat.

I mostly stick to lager beer, but if we're strictly talking other types of beer, I sometimes drink Newcastle Brown Ale.

I've also tried two local brands of non-lager beer that I like:
Viking Stout (dark black with some coffee and chocolate taste) and Freyja (Belgian style Witbier):

I'm madly in love with beer but find the expensive things I try almost always disappoint. Give me a 6-pack of Hacker Pschorr and I'm quite happy. And if the local 'mart doesn't have it, and it usually doesn't, Blue Moon ain't so bad.

It might be kinda tricky to find this particular type of beer in North America, as the brewery (http://www.brugghus.is/en...lthome.php) doesn't have a U.S. distributor yet.
They do have a Canadian distributor (http://fitumitrading.com/...ducts.html) but unfortunately the brewery isn't exporting the Freyja brand to Canada currently - their other two brands have also received good reviews though, especially the Skjalfti premium lager.
