Dave Chappelle is the heir to Paul Mooney's throne

OMG, this Dave Chappelle "Greatest Misses" show is fucking HYSTERICAL.

The Gay KKK, wearing pink robes and hoods, politely and sweetly suggesting to their black neighbors, "so...have you considered going back to Africa?"

What the fuck??

falloff

Only Dave Chappelle, Richard Pryor (for whom Mooney of course wrote material), or Paul Mooney would pull some shit like this.

So-called "offensive" comics and shows like Carlos Mencia and Family Guy WISH they could do racial/social comedy with a fraction of the brilliance of this shit. And these are his reject skits I'm watching!

Gay boxers calling each other "fatass" at the weigh-in...this shit is so fucking offensive.

falloff

I saw Dave doing standup a few weeks ago at a local nightclub that is owned by one of his former tour managers. There were about seventy five people in the audience.

It's the second time I've seen him do standup at a club. The first time was about a year after he left the show. He was awesome.

This time, he was great, for about the first two and half hours. After that, he started rambling. He couldn't stop talking about walking away from the $50 million contract Comedy Central offered him.

He clearly felt that he had to walk away in order to maintain his edge and credibility, but at the same time he seems haunted by it, like he can't make up his mind whether or not he did the right thing. Anyway, he talked about it A LOT.

I ended up leaving, before his show ended, at 4:30 in the morning, after he had been on stage for about five hours.

Big thumbs up! I think Dave Chapelle sits with Mel Brooks atop the comedy throne.

I'm not one to laugh out loud (bellow) a lot at comedy. Most of the time, I think stuff is funny and can chuckle/smile etc..

But those two guys have almost always had me over a barrel laughing. I love how neither one of them are afraid to take on tough subjects head on and make light of them; much like the creators of South Park.

Dave's great, and what I like most about his material is that while it can be naughty, it doesn't come off as gratuitous or without thought, which is FAR more than what I can say abut so many "comics" out there nowadays.

Paul Mooney wrote a SHIT load of material for the show, so the connection between them makes so much sense to me nod

falloff!!!!

I don't find it offensive at all. He's making fun of the ridiculousness of the stereotypes around gay people.

There's a nuanced difference IMO between what he's doing now and what Eddie Murphy did withe AIDs jokes in the 80's.

Dave is a genius. I remember when the Monica Lewinski thing blew up and he was talking about fame. (this is before his show), and he said, "I'm famous but the President is ((( FAMOUS )))" If somebody can suck your dick and then THEY'RE famous,... falloff!!! The entire skit was hysterical. lol

I can believe that he is still not at peace with his decision. Here he was about to make all this money, but he felt that all wouldn't have been right with his soul if he had taken it. I personally feel that he made the right decision. I'd rather him walk away while being on top than to sell his soul to the devil and then let the show go down under "somebody else's" control other than his own.
I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

I love this man. After seeing him on "Inside the Actor's Studio" with James Lipton I loved him more. And when I bought his DVDs and saw the outtakes from some of the Rick James skits, I was rolling. I could not breath I was laughing so hard. The thing is, when I watch a comedy skit and even after the 5th time I am still crying because I am laughing so hard, then I know it's genius. Dave does that to me.

I think the 2nd season of Chappelle's Show is the funniest season of television ever. No show has made me laugh so hysterically throughout the entire season like Chappelle's Show did. Even great comedies like Seinfeld, All in the Family, the Cosby Show, and the Simpsons have at least 1 or 2 misses in a season.

Could you imagine how funny Dave would be talking about Obama, or the Tea Party Movement?

He's definitely missed in today's climate. As much as I love the Daily Show, Colbert, and South Park.

I wish he was able to handle things a little better.

Ok...why can't he get his own show on another cable station? He is definitely needed now with all the crazy tea-bagging shit going on.

One of very few good American comedies, but i reckon South Park remains American satire king.

But, bloody hell you all need to get into British humour. It makes all this look childish.

For a new one, try The Thick Of It.....that's called actual genius satire. Or try Stewart Lee's Comedy Vehicle for the greatest satire television has seen since Jam.

I really think he's the guy that broke the ground for many forms of comedy. He has most definitely had his share of films that weren't very inspired, but he's had so many ground breaking comedies that he'll always share the throne for me personally.

Paris9748430 said he thinks Season 2 of Chapelle is the funniest TV series ever and I couldn't agree more. It's REALLY hard to bat 50% on comedy sketches. And season 2 was probably about 75 to 80% pure genius.
