I guess the conversation I transcribed could seem a bit seedy, when viewing from an outsider's viewpoint. And yeah, it's drunken chatter about inhaling spray glue, hand-jobs and Prince, but that was my youth - and his youth too. The actual full conversation was a few hours long - and very affecting.

I'll meet him for a drink sometime, but that's all.

Sometimes I find FB quite a buzz, if people you know and like are online and you either chat or post messages instantaneously. It's great for catching up with old friends from school/work etc too.

Other times when it's a bit dead, or people appear to be having a much more exciting time than you it can enhance any feeling of loneliness I might be experiencing and get a bit depressing so it's time to log off and go and do something else.

Today one of my old school friends (who I don't see and probably would not meet up with when I go back to my hometown) posted that he had been having phone sex with someone and basically confessed that he is a cheating twat. Then presumably one of his wife's friends responded very angrily. Some of my other school friends who only know him in the same way as me posted "surpised/confused" responses. I was like . What a thing to post. Not depressing as such but a bit off-putting. That's not why I joined FB, to see other people's personal drama played out in front of my eyes. Weird.

Social networking is about telling people that don't care about things that you don't either.
