omg, you're SO wrong!

I really think people who don't like tofu just haven't had it prepared well. I hate a BAD tofu as much as the next person. OK, not as much, cause I can still eat it but I'd rather not. But when it's good... cloud9

Come on, Carrie. I live in Asia. You know I've had tofu cooked by different methods, sometimes well, sometimes badly. There's a Japanese place we go to and order these sets. Tofu comes in a couple of things in the sets, one being miso soup. I don't hate tofu, it's just pointless for me to eat it. It would taste ok if taken with the soup simply because the soup tastes good, but that's no reason to eat it. lol Same with the other side dish it comes in, where the sauce and veggies under it taste good, so I eat just that and now make a point to leave the tofu. Mon does it too (she avoids fried tofu in particular like the plague so as to avoid the poor calorie:tastiness ratio of it). It's just pointless. I'd rather have mushrooms, for one, or any other good ol' veggie, if not meat. If I eat that tofu I might not have room for something better that comes in the sets. It's not for me, it's for vegetarians. It's a compromise, a culinary sacrifice, a bland foodstuff. lol

I agree with this.
Any substance you have to work that deligently to give flavor is pointless. I like some tofu, but it's because of the way the chef makes it.

You can basically just stir fry mushroom and they'll be tastey right off the bat.

Raw Veganists, of course, don't eat tofu, and when I went raw, mushrooms and various nuts were used instead. I started experimenting with using combinations of mushrooms and eggplants in curry, and they are far tastier than tofu.

I find the Indians here in Bangkok actually do a better job than the Thais do at making tofu taste good. The Chinese are good at it too, but I'm not a big fan of Chinese food.

Looks alright. I bet the sauce is nice. I'm not just trying to be an ass but I just know I'd like the dish more with something else instead of tofu in there. What does the tofu bring to the dish that something else couldn't do better, if we're not talking about this being a vegetarian thing. Why would a meat eater choose tofu?

Well only because this dish is especially for tofu. There's really no reason for a meat-eater to seek it out as a substitute for meat should one not be a vegetarian.

But it's an awesome dish....nice and spicy.....and it usually has pork in it anyway so it's a combo dish guaranteed to piss off vegelesbians and meatchowers alike lol

It's sometimes done by replacing the tofu with eggplant. Mabou Nasu....I'm sure you'd love it if you don't mind things a little spicy.

I'll be on the lookout for it. thumbs up!

I'll leave any tofu alone just like I do when I order a huge dish of delicious kimchi (which where I get it comes with tofu). It'll leave a little space for the 'Earthquake' ice-cream feast at Swenson's. lol drool

co-sign on the bloody steak... bone-in like prime rib too. That's my favorite cut.

unless it's an innocent lamb, then I want that roasted and a leg would do nicely!

highfive ladies! smile
I've only had lamb once...and wasn't too fond of the funky after taste...maybe I should try it again.

I don't seek out tofu, but I will eat it. And this looks absolutely scrumptious! I'd fight a mofo over this!

I found with lamd that I only like it seasoned the same way, but it can be cooked differently.
It needs mustard seasoning and fresh rosemary, its a weird little type of meat.

Too much garlic can mess it up... like tofu. My sister drowns her tofu w/ garlic. feeling ill

You know, easing into it could be immensely helpful if you really want to be a vegetarian long-term in the future. Maybe try cutting down to only having meat one meal a day. Or cutting out all beef first, and once you feel good about how that's working, then pork, then chicken, or in whatever order feels right for you. This will help you build up your recipe repertoire too, before cutting all other forms of protein altogether.

What worked for me is I gradually stopped eating meat at home. I'd order it if eating out and happily ate it if I was served it as a guest, but just didn't cook it at home. As time went on I was ordering it less and less frequently when eating out, choosing the veggie options when dining with friends and before I knew it I realized it had been a year since I'd eaten any chicken at all. I was down to eating beef once a month or so and bacon only once a week. That was when I decided to go pescetarian. After about 6 months-year or so of that I realized I'd only eaten fish a handful of times in that whole period. So several months ago I decided to knock that out of my diet as well.

Tofu is a waste of time. Whatever dish it's in, have mushrooms or something instead. Tofu has only ever detracted from a meal in so far as something tastier could and should have been used in its place. We go out of our way to avoid it. lol Regular veggies beat that processed, banal crap every day of the week. smile

I agree. Tofu is digusting. I hate the texture of it and it has no taste; so what's the point of eating it? (I also hate the texture of mushrooms, too.)

thats a good idea cause i haven't done it for a while to ease into it. Not a big meat/chicken eater anyway ( love fish once in a while) but should be good. don't eat out a lot but when i do with my fam they usually don't have vegetarian options (they usually go to seafood places) i think what will be harder is giving up milk and getting used to another taste.

thanks for taking the time out to type all of that hun.

Yes. Two things I have noticed over the years (this is year 5 for me) One is is that I am not so heavy when I play basketball, and at 40 years old that is a huge plus. I have a lot more energy when I am dealing with my my own kids, and my 20-25 students in my classroom. And the second thing is, my blood pressure and choelsterol numbers have dropped greatly without the aid of a pill. The doctors were trying to get me to take 2-3 pills, which were costing $35-$40 per bottle of meds bucks a month! Nope.

My favorite recipe is Rigatoni Puttanesca with Veggie Meatballs. I love this meal.
