Doesn't taste at all meat like, but is tasty. Worth trying, just don't go for the 'meaty' products if you wanna stay away from meat-looking products [Edited 3/25/10 14:47pm] yes i've had quorn burgers before but i never see them anymore in the shops lately all i see is quorn that looks like minced meat and it puts me off [Edited 3/25/10 15:06pm]

Dewrede said: erik319 said: Was this Aimed at me? If so, for me food needs to satisfy 3 major criterior. Texture, flavour and smell. Tofu has none of this for my tastes. I'd rather have a vegetarian meal without it than add something that I dislike in flavour and texture. I've had it cooked many and every time, it has detracted from the meal. Yuck. I'll stick to either meat meals or vegie meals. Sorry tofu, but fuku [Edited 3/25/10 14:49pm] no i was talking about your comment on mushrooms oh haha. Sorry. Because they're not vegetables and they're not animals, but they're nearer to animal than vegetable. So they say... blah blah blah

I never ever liked sausages. Wouldn't touch them when I ate red meat. but got a pack of veggie tesco sausages recently and they're ace. I can't describe the flavour, they're sagey.... But just great. Dewrede said: ^ that is bullshit
it basically adapts the taste of what you cook/fry it with for example ;you can marinate it in soy sauce and then stir fry it and it tastes nice I love tofu better than I like meat actually I love the premarinated ones, like satay or red curry

Tofu is a waste of time. Whatever dish it's in, have mushrooms or something instead. Tofu has only ever detracted from a meal in so far as something tastier could and should have been used in its place. We go out of our way to avoid it. Regular veggies beat that processed, banal crap every day of the week. MY COUSIN WORKS IN A PHARMACY AND SHE SAID THEY ENEMA'D PRANCE INTO OBLIVION WITH FENTONILS!!

The Wife's a vegetarian. Not a save-the-little-lambs type, just doesn't like meat. My Large child is the same. She even boaks if you say the word "haggis". Medium child will eat anything and would happily discuss it's demise as she eats. Small only seems to want Heinz Tomato Soup, so not sure where she'll pitch up.
So, The Wife has been cooking with Quorn for a while now. That way we can all eat the same thing. And it's actually quite nice. I think I've forgotten what real mince tastes like and the meatballs, I swear you can't tell the difference. Until the next day.... It wasn't easy at first, I had to lick a few slices of sliced meat from the fridge to get me through, but I hardly do that at all now. I actually ate a pasta dish last night and didn't notice it was just vegetables until much later.

omg, you're SO wrong! I really think people who don't like tofu just haven't had it prepared well. I hate a BAD tofu as much as the next person. OK, not as much, cause I can still eat it but I'd rather not. But when it's good... |

omg, you're SO wrong! I really think people who don't like tofu just haven't had it prepared well. I hate a BAD tofu as much as the next person. OK, not as much, cause I can still eat it but I'd rather not. But when it's good... Come on, Carrie. I live in Asia. You know I've had tofu cooked by different methods, sometimes well, sometimes badly. There's a Japanese place we go to and order these sets. Tofu comes in a couple of things in the sets, one being miso soup. I don't hate tofu, it's just pointless for me to eat it. It would taste ok if taken with the soup simply because the soup tastes good, but that's no reason to eat it. Same with the other side dish it comes in, where the sauce and veggies under it taste good, so I eat just that and now make a point to leave the tofu. Mon does it too (she avoids fried tofu in particular like the plague so as to avoid the poor calorie:tastiness ratio of it). It's just pointless. I'd rather have mushrooms, for one, or any other good ol' veggie, if not meat. If I eat that tofu I might not have room for something better that comes in the sets. It's not for me, it's for vegetarians. It's a compromise, a culinary sacrifice, a bland foodstuff. MY COUSIN WORKS IN A PHARMACY AND SHE SAID THEY ENEMA'D PRANCE INTO OBLIVION WITH FENTONILS!!

I bet the sauce is nice. I'm not just trying to be an ass but I just know I'd like the dish more with something else instead of tofu in there. What does the tofu bring to the dish that something else couldn't do better, if we're not talking about this being a vegetarian thing. Why would a meat eater choose tofu?
