I love bacon way too much. Doesn't have to be 100% to be a good thing. "What's 'non-sequitur' mean? Do I look it up in a Fag-to-English dictionary?"

Off & on for about 10 years. I'm currently one now, mainly for health reasons. I've noticed as I've grown older, I don't crave meat as much, so I see this as a natural progression. I'm trying to limit myself to dairy as well. One of the benefits you'll notice with a Vegetarian/Vegan diet coupled with exercise, is that you lose a lot of weight. I've lost about 25lbs since after Christmas. [Edited 3/24/10 7:41am]

Have you tried buying your chicken from a butcher or farmer that sells organic free range chickens free from hormones? We switched and we feel much better. I have tried free range and organic and it has happened with both. But I don't go weird everytime I eat it, so I think it probably has got something to do with whats been added to it or maybe what the chicken has been fed. I suppose I should get an allergy test, but avoiding it is working out ok at the moment.

The reason I ask is that white meat - unless it's accompanied by some fat in what you're eating with it - could cause a hypoglycemic episode. Yes, yes - I know chicken breast is protein heavy, rather than carb heavy. But in some people, too much protein - without fat to moderate its uptake by the body - can cause the same kind of reaction as too much carbohydrate. Just something to consider... I love bacon way too much. My former boss (who was a vegetarian) once told me, "Bacon is the only vegetarian meat. " For me, the only vegetarian meats are pig, chicken, beef and fish. But, I am trending veg. I eat way more vegies and fruits than meat and often eat entirely vegetarian meals. Still, I would never call myself a vegetarian ... yet. tackam said: Yes. I've been a vegetarian almost half my life now, and a vegan for nearly a decade.
The most important benefit, to me, is that I don't pay people to torture animals in factory farms. You can say that without being a vegetarian, if you buy carefully, but I find it easier to just avoid the foods altogether. I am also healthier than the rest of my family by far. The rest of them are all on blood pressure and/or cholesterol meds. My numbers are perfect. And I feel good. Then there are the environmental benefits. Eating meat every day is like driving a Hummer, in terms of climate impact. Industrial agriculture is also terrible for our land and water. It's a choice I continue to be happy about. Same. I've been vegetarian for 4 years and vegan for 6 months.....my health has improved tenfold and I feel happy that I'm not supporting the cruel practices of the meat and dairy industries. |

No, but I would like to be. I recently saw a documentary about the meat-packing business and it really disturbed me to see how the cattle and chickens are treated before and during the slaughtering process. It broke my heart to watch. However, it would be difficult for me to go strictly vegan because I love dairy products. I'll drink milk before I drink water!
Back in the 70's I had a friend who was a strict vegetarian. It was a pain to have her over for dinner because she would demand that all food be vegetarian. I ignored her ass and cooked a few veggie dishes for her, but the main course was a meat dish. And once while she was staying with me because she was as poor as a church mouse, I had cooked some fresh cabbage and used a little bacon grease. She smelled that cabbage and dug in like she was eatin pussy! I didn't say a word...but it didn't kill 'er. Once I had this veggie sandwich from some ritzy ditzy gourmet shop made with a grain bread, bean sprouts, alfalfa sprouts, lettuce, tomato and some kind of dressing. OMG, I haven't been able to duplicate the taste of that sandwich. I think it must have been the bread. When I went to buy the bread from a shop called Au Pain or something, they wanted $25 for a small loaf. I walked out the shop breadless and cussing!

Do you know what pisses me off about the vegetarian diet? I don't eat red meat and from time to time, I've been for a meal where I have had no option but the vegetarian er... option.
Which would be fine and dandy, but it always comes served on a massive plate, with the tiniest vegetarian tart or whatever in the middle and a bit of grass on the side. That wouldn't fill a fricking elf! Last time this happened, I was at a friends wedding, and I proceeded to cadge potatoes and other stuff off everyone else on my table in the attempt to fill me up! blah blah blah

Yes! I only own plants and they only eat sunshine and water. I do wear leather shoes though. The check. The string he dropped. The Mona Lisa. The musical notes taken out of a hat. The glass. The toy shotgun painting. The things he found. Therefore, everything seen–every object, that is, plus the process of looking at it–is a Duchamp.

I once arrange to meet a friend at a local pub after work for some food and a couple of beers. I was a bit late, so by the time I got there, they had ordered the food already. Seeing the look of horror on my face, he said "Don't worry Erik, I know you're a vegetarian, so I ordered you a chicken kiev."
He knew I didn't eat red meat, but to him that was being a vegetarian..! blah blah blah

^ that is bullshit
it basically adapts the taste of what you cook/fry it with for example ;you can marinate it in soy sauce and then stir fry it and it tastes nice
