"Microsoft Security Essentials" (free anti-virus software) - Opinions?

Better/worse than AVG or any other free products?

I've used it. I liked it.

My ITtech brother in law and his ITtech partner suggested to me to use it.

I like it too, M.S.E. is "light", interface is easy to understand, and it's caught and removed viruses & malware without any issues. Besides it gives you real time protection. I'm about to ditch Avira/Webroot on another computer and use M.S.E.

Thumbs up.

The scanning engine and virus database is the same used in the corporate edition called Microsoft Forefront.

Still it's nice to know, when our bodies wear out, we can get another

I like it. I don't have it on my computer because Norton
is doing very well on it but i have MSE installed on my
sister's computer and it's been excellent thus far.
If i had problems with the latest Norton, i would use MSE myself.

Our contractual/freelance IT guy where I work just installed this on all of our computers. shrug

He also recommended Avast to me for my home laptop.

I like Avast too but on my old lil' computer(in terms of HDD & RAM) Avast became a resource hog.

Of note: Microsoft Support offers, Microsoft Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool to help remove specific prevalent malicious software for computers running Windows OS: 7, Vista, Sever 2003 & 2008, XP and 2000.

THAT IS, if your aren't using MSE, Windows Defender is disabled when you download MSE because WD is apart of MSE virus/malware software. I though I should make myself clear.

I've switched to it too. AVG was slowing down my system. Avira stopped my system entirely whilst updating.

MSE is so unobtrusive that I worry if it's actually working!
