I used to stay in Costa Rica, sometimes for several months in a year, and then I had to come back to Germany because of my new job.
Felt like Jack Shepard from LOST leaving the island and falling into a huge depression, looking for a way back ever since...not necessarily Costa Rica but any other warm and distant place.
So I can totally relate to your situation.

sigh I know what you are talking about. So we are in the same boat a bit highfive. If it wasn't for money/job and my apartment I would move there. It is a completely different life, especially as I was living in the middle of the rain forest. I miss living there, but most of all I miss my bf bawl.
What was life in Costa Rica like? Did you ever make a thread about it wink lol?

Nah, no thread....but it was probably one of the best, if not THE best time of my life.

Not to get too off topic.....gas was really cheap there, too. lol

If we could make enough money I would want to help him with his shop like I did in the last weeks. But I don't think we could both live of it. The main reason is my apartment though.

Rent out your apartment to someone else, and live off of that rent money.
You could buy a lot of diesel in Trinidad for that money.

nod

And once you´re there, you could hook me up with a job, too, and a hot girl or two. wink It´s cold and rainy here and I´m very frustrated these days.
The only thing that´s bad about living in the Carribbean is the huge distance to Europe or mainland USA but then again, that is also one of the good things about it. wink

Very few people need any of the things they possess in life. This website and all the trappings associated with using it are some of them.

A car is as convenient as hot and cold running water. We don't demonise them do we?

It's all part of the gonvernments plan to demonise items that they tax highly to make you think that you're bad for using them, so you don't feel cheated by the fact that the tax on said items is so high. See also cigarettes & alcohol.

The only problem is, they demonised smoking so much (I've never smoked, so it's not like I'm some disgruntled ex smoker here), that it is now considered pretty much illegal nowadays. Suddenly the government lost out on a lot of tax revenue.... and all of a sudden, gambling springs up as 'acceptable'. amazing! You now can't turn on the telly without seeing an advert for 'Cheeky Wank Bingo' or whatever...

I've said all this in another thread recently, feel a bit of a deja vu going on! smile

I never looked at it like that. Sounds weird but interesting.
And you´re on to something with those gambling commercials....they´re all over the place now, in almost all countries....especially Poker seems to have some kind of renaissance.

i know. i spend about equal amounts on gas and food in a month.

that's absolutely ludicrous.

i recently moved home and it's in a nice village where i can go
to the stores on foot. so that's made a big difference already.

but it's rediculous how much petrol costs in this country. mad

that's the main reason i have a car now. commuting is hell when you need
to get on a train every day. especially since you can (almost) never get
a seat and have to stand for up to 40 minutes.

but even if it's not for commuting, i only take the train a few times a
year. i'm just scared to get on public transport. i get claustrophobic,
or plain scared. especially travelling at night or late in the day on a
weekend.

plus, trainticket prices are even higher than gass prices in holland, so
i've opted for a small car. i like driving and it gets you exactly to
where you have to be, instead of one central location from which you're
still obligated to either take a buss, a subway, a taxi or a bycicle.
