I haven't gone for the Burton, but I was there recently for the Kentridge show (wrote my MA thesis on him) -- the place was a zoo because of the Burton show. I saw a former co-worker there, who had gone to see the Burton, she said it was a madhouse. MoMA's normally crowded (I work one block away & go on my lunch break sometimes), but that show is making it way, way, way too crowded. I hate seeing art in overcrowded galleries.
Also, I think you have to pre-schedule tickets -- not necessarily pay extra, but I think they are having timed entrances due to the crowds. The sign in front of the 53rd St. entrance says the Burton show is sold out for that particular day when I walk by some mornings. The check. The string he dropped. The Mona Lisa. The musical notes taken out of a hat. The glass. The toy shotgun painting. The things he found. Therefore, everything seen–every object, that is, plus the process of looking at it–is a Duchamp. | |
