I love swimming. I'm not particularly skilled as far as proper technique or anything, I just love being in the water. Always have. My grandma used to call me her little duck.
Swimming in the ocean is one of my favorite things in life. Waves! Whee! I also live near a large lake, and I'll swim nearly every day when it's warm enough. There's a park near my clinic that has a lovely view of Mt. Rainier from the water. It's a great way to shake off a long day at work. I'll use a pool when it's what I've got, but I prefer something more nature-y, usually. Ivy, Sammi, other people who really can't swim, please consider learning. This planet has a lot of water on it, and someday you might fall in. Get yourself to where you can at least tread water comfortably. It's a safety thing. Here's the place near work where I like to swim: "What's 'non-sequitur' mean? Do I look it up in a Fag-to-English dictionary?"

Oh, coolest swimming experience recently? Snorkeling with manta rays at night. My dad took this video.

Before that was probably 2003 or 2004 in a pool in Vegas. And again, more bobbing about. There are 11,000+ lakes here. It's not that there's no where to do it. I just don't wear a swimsuit in public. Sometimes it's worth wearing a swimsuit in public. Wanna see my big white belly? http://www.flickr.com/pho...305926198/ Seeing stuff like that is SO WORTH being the fat girl on the beach. Me with "my" school of butterfly fish. . . they were following me around, I think because of my gloves. It was magical. "What's 'non-sequitur' mean? MrsMdiver said: I taught myself to swim when I was about 13-14 yrs old. When I was really young, I had a HUGE fear of water. My father used to throw me in our pool to try to help me overcome my fear. It only made the fear worse since I could not swim nor could he.
When my mom and I moved to FL when I was 12, I was teased in the community pool because I swam holding my nose. So, I would walk to the pool everyday in the summer. When I found the pool empty, I would get in and tried to relax, float and then eventually taught myself to swim under water without holding my nose or using nose plugs. My mom was quite surprised when she realized that I could swim on my own. Though she then said that I could not really swim because I was still afraid when we were out in a boat in the deep sea. She said that I would sink like a rock to the bottom if I ever went overboard. The more that I went out in the ocean by boat, my fear lessened. In 2008 I overcame my fear of being out in the sea snorkeling. Sadly I waited until the last day in the Maldives to do it. It was the most amazing experience to swim/snorkel with a Hawksbill Turtle. He/she let us follow it as it fed for about 10 mins. it was awesome! I was a bit uncomfortable when we went back out that afternoon past the coral reef it it was a bit deep and wavy. Amazing! I'll be the first person in and the last one out, but I just don't know how to swim. My daughter loves to swim and I started her on lessons at an early age, because I wanted her to know how and to lesson my nervousness with her being in water.
Nonsense. There are adult classes all the time at the YMCA. Which there wouldn't be if adults were too old to learn. Uh, I realize adults can learn to swim. I'm just saying its how I feel.

I could swim back and forth just fine with no fear. I never went to the bottom of the deep end, it was 12 feet. I had a set of pool weights and was more that happy in the shallow end soaking up sun and getting some exercise.

I love me some swimming!
It used to be, and guess it still is to some extent a big part of my life. I used to compete a lot - and that meant a hell of a lot of training. I used to spend 22 hours a week in the pool. 2hours training before school, and a further 2 hours before bed monday to friday, then 2hrs saturday morning followed by a weights session in the gym. Swimming takes a hell of a lot of commitment. And those who do it don't get the recognition they desrve. Anyone who swam competitivly will tell you how it takes over your life! Still love it though; despite not putting in the stupid hours anymore! lol

Our friend Jane said she's lost 6 lbs in this last two days so I think she's really going for it. She said she's got another 20 to lose to get down to 99 lbs, which seems incredibly light. She's only about 5ft 1, but still... Meanwhile, my beer belly has started flattening and I've been deliberately eating meals pretty low in fat to help that, but I'm going to start trying to eat more again to put on weight now. I think I'm only about 170 lbs right now and I aim to get to about 180 within a few months. I know it's actually going to be really tough to put on the weight though. I wish I could strike a deal to get some off Mon, as she's aiming to lose about 7 or 8 lbs. MY COUSIN WORKS IN A PHARMACY AND SHE SAID THEY ENEMA'D PRANCE INTO OBLIVION WITH FENTONILS!!

I will never weight under 100lbs again, well, not until I am really old perhaps. I just returned from walking to the nearest grocery store, about 15 mins for me at a very fast pace. I probably look like an idiot walking with the pram/stroller that quick but it is cold and I walk fast anyways. I do walk a lot and when I take the dog to the valley, it is through all sorts of terrain. Good thing that buggy is a 3 wheeler with thick off road tires. I miss the sunshine and pool though.

I've been sticking to lots of salads and light stuff though, just to speed up losing my gut, as I know I can put on a few lbs again quite easily.
