I love to swim, I would rather be at a beach, but during the winter months I settle for going to the pool at the gym.

Swimming is ok.... I like that it makes me feel energised after doing a few lengths.
I don't tend to make the effort to go to the pool though, apart from on holidays and when I take my kids - and I don't get to swim much then cos they're hanging off me or I have to keep an eye on them. I would like my kids to both be swimming well this year. I guess i'm going to have to visit the pool more often.

I love swimming and I used to go three times a week, two hours each, swimming 4km each.
Now I don't anymore, because: a) I don't have the time. b) The coldness of the water in that public indoor swimming pool was creeping me out, especially in winter, when you go outside into the dark the evening and it's so freezing cold the remaining water in your hair freezes I'd never get a private pool, though. I think it's way too expensive and you have to take care of it so much it's much more work than it is a pleasure. Apart from that, no home pool could ever be big enough to be worth the prize. I want to bulk up a bit again, so I'd love to go swimming again, because it certainly is the best you can do for your body, but, as I said, I hardly ever have the time. Instead, I play football (soccer) twice a week for two hours, ruining what is left of my ankles and back.

I taught myself to swim when I was about 13-14 yrs old. When I was really young, I had a HUGE fear of water. My father used to throw me in our pool to try to help me overcome my fear. It only made the fear worse since I could not swim nor could he.
When my mom and I moved to FL when I was 12, I was teased in the community pool because I swam holding my nose. So, I would walk to the pool everyday in the summer. When I found the pool empty, I would get in and tried to relax, float and then eventually taught myself to swim under water without holding my nose or using nose plugs. My mom was quite surprised when she realized that I could swim on my own. Though she then said that I could not really swim because I was still afraid when we were out in a boat in the deep sea. She said that I would sink like a rock to the bottom if I ever went overboard. The more that I went out in the ocean by boat, my fear lessened. In 2008 I overcame my fear of being out in the sea snorkeling. Sadly I waited until the last day in the Maldives to do it. It was the most amazing experience to swim/snorkel with a Hawksbill Turtle. He/she let us follow it as it fed for about 10 mins. it was awesome! I was a bit uncomfortable when we went back out that afternoon past the coral reef it it was a bit deep and wavy.
