isn't the axis in some sort of perpetual sidewards up and down motion

It spins like a top, so the axis points to the side and moves gradually in a circle

Actually, the day of the quake was 1.26 microseconds shorter. You better hope they don't dock your pay! lol

i think something much bigger has to happen before the axis of the
earth will tip so much that it causes global catastrophies.

that's what the maya's predicted, didn't they, the tipping of the
earth's axis?
