Also, I had sores near my eyes and was worried too, but nothing bad happened. I took the medication and it eventually went away.

Did you go to an eye doctor or a general practitioner?

I went to my regular doctor.
It's what you make it.

An anecdote, We took our girls out yesterday for our annual V-Day tradition (we did it a day early) of going to Build a Bear for the kids and my wife going to Victoria Secret and a few other places to get some stuff. We were at Belk and my wife bought her face powder she buys. The salesperson was the spitting image of Adam Lambert said that he had some makeup that could cover up the Shingles blisters. So he sat her down in the makeup chair and proceeded to give her a 15 minute free makeover. He was an absolute trip and it was what my wife needed, a little human kindness. I think they bonded a little an my wife is definitely going to be on the lookout for our new friend Eric when we go back. Soemtimes it's the little things...

What a way to spend V-Day weekend! My wife developed a blister on the side of the bridge of her nose, about an inch away from her right eye. Her lymph nodes were swollen and she had bad headaches so she went to see the doctor and got the diagnosis. She started taking Valtrex (Shingles is a cousin of Herpes) on Friday and we're going to see another doctor tomorrow. The right side of her face is swollen and all the sites I Googled have pretty terrifying possibilities about complications with the eyes caused from Shingles. My wife has enough damn bad breaks (Diabetes, high blood pressure) and this is about all I can take. One of the causes of Shingles is stress and I feel like a lot of what ails hers is because I just do not do enough. I would take all of her ailments from her in a heartbeat if it were possible.

Anyway, need some reassuring words or any info from anyone who may have had experience with Shingles.

I hope your wife feels better. I've never had shingles. Considering all these other anecdotes, I'm sure your wife's condition will improve in time!

Not that YOU are causing her stress... because I just think you're doing all you can.. But stress can really mess you up! I think it can trigger shingles outbreaks even though its underlying cause is a virus.

This year.. I was so stressed out about going to the doctor for my physical.. Long story.. BUT before my appointment, I was having back pain... headaches, stomach aches.. You name it! When I got to my appointment, my initial blood pressure reading was 150 over 90! eek I was like... GREAT... TERRIFIC.. Now my blood pressure is all messed up... never mind the fact I had started "my fast" too early the day before for my bloodwork.. I was starving: my appointment was 10:30 and I didn't have anything to eat since 5:00 PM the preceding day!

Well anyway, by the end of my appointment, my blood pressure was down to 120 over 70! lol Then the next week, I got my lab results back: my blood sugar was slightly elevated! So.. I was like... GREAT, TERRIFIC... Now I'm diabetic! lol

My doctor said she wasn't worried about my blood sugar because I was so stressed-out to the point of anxiety attacks before and during my appointment. She said stress raises blood sugar--plus, I drank a cup of coffee with creamer... which I told her about before they took the sample. Apparently, coffee can cause blood sugar to rise. She also said that extreme hunger can cause blood sugar to rise. So the long and short of it--at this point she's not worried... so I'm not going to worry either! Everything else was fine..

Well... amazingly enough after I got the all-clear... ALL of my other problems went away overnight... I mean.. the back.. headaches...stomachache.. EVERYTHING... (I told my doctor about those, too, and she wasn't concerned! LOL) I had just worked myself into a frenzy.

Anyway, that's not to say the same is true for your wife. I'm just saying.. it's amazing how stress and anxiety CAN cause physical consequences. So... if at all possible, if she could try not to worry...(which I know is so difficult to do) then... maybe.. it might help.

This thread is why I love you guys. I have been on the Org for almost 6 years now. I have never "made it", as it were. I'm not on a lot of Org Lists or anything, something that used to bother me but now I have made peace with because I don't really post a whole lot, chat, send Orgnotes etc. I've never met any of you in person and yet the Org as a collective whole has always been there for me whenever I had a personal crisis or major life event. Members of the Org have written reassuring words when my family was dealing with a difficult pregancy, my wife's diabetes diagnosis, Chapter 13, a house fire, and now this.

Thank you. I know it sounds corny but this really is a special place.

This post made my day!

Thank YOU for being so.. human...

Yeah.. it's only the internet.. but sometimes we make connections in spite of being only the internet. In reaching out to somebody in need... well.. it gives us peace--letting us know we aren't so alone... We're all dealing with life.. in one way or another..

im showing this post to my husband...he just had routine bloods, and his blood sugar was slightly elevated...has to do a glucose tolerance test(i think) now to rule out diabetes.
BUT, he drinks heaps of coffee, and eats on the run...and is always stressed.
everything else was fine
im glad you are okay, stress does funny things to the body hug

And to GottaLetitgo, i can tell from you post that you do more than enough for your wife, the fact that you are extremely worried, and asking the org for help is one of those signs.

My mom had shingles. It was the first time I ever saw her literally scream in pain. She had to have a cornea transplant because it went in her eye. Shingles are no joke.

Well.. I was thinking I'd have to have further followup, too! I didn't asked how "elevated" it was... either! LOL I don't even have to do it again in 6 months.. or 3 months..

I guess.. she's ok about waiting until my next physical! So... I didn't press her on it. I go every year, and this is the first time it was elevated. I'm sure if it's elevated next year... she'll be more aggressive.

Let me know how it turns out for your husband. If he ate anything before his blood test--it could have spiked his glucose, too!?

My husband is diabetic. It runs in his family. It's something he has to really monitor through tests, medications, exercise.. etc... We even went to this workshop for diabetes. In fact, he just got a new testing kit! LOL
