There was actually a study conducted, not sure whether it was in the UK or the USA, that said that all these designer yoghurts, dont do any good at all, whatsoever!!!
Plus the fact that all these so-called "bacteria chemicals" that are supposed to b in these yoghurts just dont even exist in the scientific world!!

Never knew that, but thanks for the scoop. I never bought any of those yogurts that are supposed to help your immune system, or anything similar to that. I tend to eat Dannon or Yoplait. RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.

Ex-Moderator | I don’t eat Activia, but I can honestly tell a difference in my regular digestion when I’m eating yogurt every day and when I’m not. |

A doctor (DO) I know said that there are things in yogurt (probiotic) that can help but even in the ones like Activia it is such small amounts that it is not likely to make much difference.
Other things like 'brown yogurt' or kefir have more of the probiotics. "Keep on shilling for Big Pharm!"

Yep. Just ads playing on peoples' lack of knowledge or curiosity about what they eat again. "A Watcher scoffs at gravity!"

Alot of people say that Yogurt is really good for you. Personally, I don't really like it. If I HAVE to, I'll eat Stonyfield. This one is particularly good if you're making smoothies.

One advert that comes to my mind is the Activa Challenge one with Jamie Lee Curtis!! I have never heard such a load of garbage in all my life!!!!! There really isn't anything healthy about yogurt. Ignore the vitamin/pro-biotic crap. If you want to aid your digestion, greatly increase your fruit and veggie intake. 5 servings of fruit (to inlcude the king of digestive aids, apples and mangos) will be so much more beneficial. What yogurt companies fail to tell you is that 75% of the substance in yogurt (in America) is sugar. They are allowed to call it fructose, succrose, and other names, but when you add up all those names, it shows at least 75% of the product is sugar. There is NOTHING, and I mean NOTHING healthy about consuming yogurt in America. I've never viewed it as healthy--it's junk food. A quick, delicious breakfast for those of us who enjoy yogurt. In America (and Asia), much of the yogurt you buy doesn't even have real yogurt in it--much of it is a fructose/weigh protein mixture ---the high sugar content is necessary so you don't taste the nastiness underneath. Eat fruits and veggies. But lawd do I miss British yogurt is to isn't / dramatic change in meaning edit [Edited 2/11/10 16:43pm]

Yoghurt is actually VERY good for you but you have to make sure you get the real deal, not some pseudo-yoghurt, as The Void mentioned above. Most of the yoghurt in most countries today is rather a yoghurt product than actually yoghurt.
Here in Germany, you can get some really good yoghurt. Depending on what I want to do with the yoghurt, I either buy fruit yoghurt as a snack or dessert or plain, low fat yoghurt for smoothies or to mix with honey or jam or oat flakes. If I want to cook Turkish style, then I buy some Turkish yoghurt with a higher fat content...it goes quite well with a lot of vegetable dishes with olive oil and tomatoes, or sprinkled with paprika flakes. There´s this Greek yoghurt called Total ( or was it Fage?) but unfortunately it only comes in very tiny little plastic containers and it is a bit pricey.I´d love to try those Chobani yoghurts but I´ve never seen them here. Yoghurt contains a lot of beneficial bacteria and boosts your immune system, and most yoghurts can also be eaten by lactose intolerant people since the lactose is already broken down by the beneficial acidophilus bacteria. Some of those probiotic yoghurts aren´t really that good though because they tend to occupy places in your intestines that are actually meant for your own intestinal bacteria. And it is true that most prebiotic yoghurt brands use human intestinal bacteria as a starter culture for their product but that doesn´t mean that you are eating bacteria that used to be in someone´s colon before. I also like to make cacik (pronounced "djadjik" (tsatsiki) or ayran with yoghurt. Tsatsiki consists of cold yoghurt diluted with water and it contains a hint of garlic, shredded cucumber bits and salt and a bit of dried peppermint leaves (crushed) and a dash of olive oil on top.Tastes delicious in the summertime. Ayran is a drink made of yoghurt, diluted with water and it contains a little bit of salt. Lassi is the Indian version, most people add milk and fruits to it. Real yoghurt is good for your skin, your immune system, your bones and hair and your general wellbeing. Sometimes I use the fake, artificial and sugary stuff as a flavor enhancer for my plain but healthy yoghurt and just add a bit of it to a big bowl of plain yoghurt. Without yoghurt I would definitely miss something. I had a hard time in countries without a steady yoghurt supply. My favorite yoghurts: Traditional Turkish full fat yoghurt (Turks eat 60 pounds of yoghurt per year) It is an acquired taste and not everybody can eat it. It is thick, a bit sour and salty and often eaten with vegetable or meat dishes. Some put it in a linen bag to drain the water so that it tastes even more sour and then they add more water to it after most of the whey is gone. Ayran: Fage Total, Greek yoghurt; I prefer the higher fat content version....2% fat is not enough for me. This here is a German fruit yoghurt by Ehrmann....Ehrmann makes a really delicious yoghurt...this is the "Fantasie" edition, with some berry sauce in it. Really recommended and one of my favorites: Another good German product without additives and chemicals: Yoghurt is good for you. From: http://www.essortment.com...h_rchl.htm Yogurt is not just a delicious snack with fruits on the bottom, it has great health benefits. It is an excellent source of protein, calcium, riboflavin and vitamin B 12. When yogurt is compared to milk, yogurt contains more calcium and protein because of the added cultures in the yogurt. Yogurt must contain active and living cultures to be yogurt. Cultures are composed of unique living microorganisms which are responsible for many of the health and nutritional benefits of yogurt. Some of the health benefits of yogurt are" It improves natural defense, it contains a good amount of phosphorus and 88% water. People with a risk of osteoporosis should eat at least one serving of yogurt per day. It has also been claimed that yogurt may protect against some types of cancer but more investigations have to be carried out. There are three types of yogurt: regular(whole milk), low-fat and skim. Low-fat and skim yogurt are good for people who are on a cholesterol lowering diet or just simply watching their weights. These types of yogurt does not raise blood cholesterol levels. Some people have trouble digesting lactose, a carbohydrate in milk and milk products, because of the deficiency of enzyme lactase in the body. Live yogurt cultures produce lactase and break down the lactose. Yogurt is a healthy way to get the calcium the body needs, for the people who can not tolerate milk products. Other benefits of live and active cultures in the yogurt are, they may help to boost the immune system. They encourage the right kind of bacteria to multiply in the gut. These bacteria help to digest food and prevent stomach infections. Also, they help to provide relief from vaginal infections. Yogurt is fresh dairy product that must be stored in the refrigerator. The heat treated yogurt has a longer shelf life but it does not give the nutritional benefits like the yogurt with live cultures because heat processing destroys the cultures. To get the most health benefit from yogurt, there must be a live and active cultures seal on the label. Yogurt is known and consumed in almost all parts of the world. Mediterranean Countries use a lot of yogurt in their cuisine. They usually eat yogurt, plain with no sugar along with main dishes like stuffed cabbage and spinach. They add yogurt to their salads or use it to make traditional "meze" They also prepare yogurt drinks made with plain yogurt, salt and water and serve it with shish kebabs. Fried vegetables such as eggplant or zucchini are eaten with yogurt. Cucumber and yogurt salad is very popular among the Mediterranean countries, it is prepared with yogurt, cucumbers, dried mint, garlic and salt. Bulgarian yogurt.
My mother used to buy me all those "healthy brands" when I was going through a particularly tough time physically. I didn't really think they had any effect on my well-being, but I let her do that as she really seemed to think they'd improve my condition.

(yoplait) has a regular yogurt that is a 6 once serving.. and has 27 grams of sugar!! checking labels is a good thing to do with these.. i've seen one that is the same 6 ounces and has 11 grams of sugar.. still kind of alot..but it's a big difference with less than half of the first one.... It's actually not bullshit at all about those specialty yogurts with more cultures than normal... it's recognized by lab tests, doctors, etc. But you don't necessarily need injected yogurt unless you have an imbalance of bacteria to begin with, or need to sort of reset your system if antibiotics have messed up your system temporarily.
regular yogurt has active bacteria too that is great for your system. My art book: http://www.lulu.com/spotl...ecomicskid

I bought some activia once cause it was 69 cents and hell I wanted yogurt and it was cheap. NEVER AGAIN. Everyone asked me if I took a dump regularly whenever I was eating it.
The yogurt stripped me of my BM privacy! I take my bathroom times privately, thank you. The commercial should be "Eat Activia - so everyone in the world can ask you if you took a shit today"
