Taylor Lautner Expands His Career By Landing Superhero Role 'Stretch Armstrong' Posted 19 hrs ago by Lindsay Soll in Casting News, Movie News, Twilight Forever! Taylor Lautner is quite literally becoming a boy toy. The "Twilight" werewolf is already set to star in "Max Steel" — he'll play the titular extreme-sports-star-turned-superhero based on Mattel toy line — and now he's stretching his acting limits even more. According to a press release, Universal Pictures has lined up Taylor for "Stretch Armstrong," a.k.a. another franchise based on a toy (this time it's a Hasbro-owned one). The 3-D adventure, set for release in 2012, will be based around the very flexible action arrived in toy stores in the 1970s and re-launched in the 1990s. "In the past two years, Taylor has emerged as a real star at the global box office. He brings the perfect balance of energy and athleticism to the role of an unlikely super hero with a fantastic super power," said Universal Pictures Co-Chairman Donna Langley in a statements. "We couldn't be more pleased that he has agreed to be our Stretch." The team behind the Universal pic will include Hasbro President and CEO Brian Goldner, producer Brian Grazer ("8 Mile," "American Gangster") and writer Steve Oedekerk ("Bruce Almighty"). Hasbro is also bringing another classic of theirs to the big screen: "Battleship." Though today, the release noted that its premiere date was bumped from July 2011 to Memorial Day weekend 2012.

Taylor Lautner DOES NOT look like Stretch Armstrong. "You put water into a cup, it becomes the cup...Now water can flow or it can crash. Be water, my friend." - Bruce Lee

I just realized it said Battleship is being made into a movie. A movie about boats that can't move. Should be interesting.

Does the world REALLY need a Stretch Armstrong movie? "We may deify or demonize them but not ignore them. And we call them genius, because they are the people who change the world."

Me and my brothers had our Stretch Armstrong's arm ripped off within 20 minutes of taking it out of the package. I pulled on one end while my two younger brothers pulled the other end up a flight of stairs and around a corner. We shit ourselves when it broke. While we played with the goop inside, we wondered if our dad was going to kill us in much the same fashion. Funny how Santa brought it to us, but somehow my mom had a receipt for it and was able to return it. If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

I think it's a good idea, as long as the movie is hilarious, and Taylor Lautner is not cast as Stretch. I'd rather see older Jim Carrey do the part than Lautner. "You put water into a cup, it becomes the cup...Now water can flow or it can crash. Be water, my friend." - Bruce Lee

i think they got him confused with plastic man His face looks nothing like Stretch Armstrong. I don't understand what these casting directors are thinking about. I prefer when actors look just like the cartoon they play, like Christopher Reeves in Superman, or Patrick Warburton in that old human version of the cartoon The Tick. LOL Hollywood is really "stretching" so that we might presume to see movies purely for nostalgic reasons. Battleship? My Legacy

Cool, I hope they make Slinky and Lite Brite into movies as well. If Lite Brite is in 3-D, I'd go see it. I'll pass on Slinky unless it's an actor/actress I hate playing the lead role.

Jem and The Holograms To Become A Bad Movie By Eric Eisenberg: 2009-11-05 14:16:02 Share | Another day, another piece of childhood ripped away from those nostalgic for the 1980s. Having a Y chromosome, it wasn't exactly my cup of tea, but I am sure that many a girl will begin weeping as it has been announced that Hasbro has sold off yet another one of its toy's film rights, this time being Jem and the Holograms. With Stretch Armstrong, Ouija Board, Candyland, Battleship, Clue, and Monopoly all headed out in the next few years, the news exactly exactly shocking. (I'm still waiting for the Lincoln Logs movie, however). As of now, relatively unknown Chinese director John Chu is, at least temporarily, attached to the project, as is High School Musical Scribe Peter Barsocchini, according to Pajiba, though it is not yet known whether Barsocchini will write the script or merely produce. Is there going to be anything in this movie that wasn't said in Spice World? I have a message for the directors over at Hasbro: just because something is fun to enjoy with a friend on a play date doesn't mean that it deserves a movie. Unfortunately, the project could get worse with two simple words: Miley Cyrus.
