I remember the barber shop one. My mother wouldn't buy me any of the kits though. All she ever bought me was those damn cans of play doh. lol

lol

I don't know if it's all still made the way it was way back when, but it's a smell you never forget. cloud9

I remember that smell. Silly Putty was a similar toy like Play Doh except you could take silly putty and press it down on a comic strip in the Sunday paper and the image would appear on it when you pull it back up.

I had 100s of Barbies (& friends), playsets, dreamhouses, etc.
But my favorite Barbies were always the Teresa dolls... in my head, they "looked like me".

biggrin Cute! I never knew how to play with dolls shrug Whenever I'd get one I'd give it to someone else. But I remember having two beautiful Barbie dolls that I really wanted to get during a short phase, but I was never really interested in playing with them. I'd just change their clothes and wash their hair every once in a while lol

But because of it, they have less imagination.

You try to get kids to "make believe" now and they look at you like you asked them to pay the mortgage. confused

I was about to say the exact same thing. The toys were very simple and the rest was left up to us to use our imagination. Now, kids have video games that do things for them when they press certain buttons. And you didn't get no toy that costs $100 back then. Try $10 and if you were really good, you got one for $20. If I had asked my mama for something that costs anywhere near $100, she would have whipped my ass for even asking. lol My cousin who was younger, rich, and spoiled had every toy imaginable no matter what the cost but his favorite thing to do was something as simple as playing with my aunt's car keys on the floor.

I used to turn shoe boxes over and play "school" with my dolls. I had a small chalkboard, and my mom would buy me chalk when she went shopping. I'd make my own worksheets and everything. biggrin

BTW- I had the same toys you had! mushy

Speaking of playing school, we used to play school with crayola crayons. We had the big 64 color box and we would stand the crayons up on the floor in rows like they were sitting at desks. Then we had a box of 8 jumbo crayons and those were the teachers and principals. lol

Barbies. rolleyes Like Carrie, I was more into the clothes than anything, and I learned to sew by making Barbie clothes.

I also loved My Little Ponies, and basically anything involving horses.

Beyond that, mainly art supplies. The big box of Crayola with the built-in sharpener was like the fuckin' holy grail of awesome to me. lol

And I played outside a lot. Climbed trees, ran around with our dog, rode the neighbor's horse.

Once I could read, though, that was what I spent most of my time doing.

* if my frikkin scanner wasn’t broken I could post old pics of me with these toys*

3: My last bicycle (dirt bike) I got Christmas 1985. It was a beautiful colored bike with a lot of racing logos and whatnot. Around 1988 I tricked it out in black and white spray paint and added black and white checkerboard foam pads to it.

2: All the Star Wars toys I got in Christmas 1983 after the ROTJ movie came out. Some of the toys I got were also from the ESB movie too.Off all the SW toys my faves were my green Luke Skywalker light saber, my Millennium Falcon and X-wing fighter, and my R2-D2 and C-3PO.

1: The baddest robot ever, my Matchbox VOLTRON/ LIONBOT that I got for Christmas in 1984!! I would take different lions out with me when I left the house, but NEVER all 5 together at the same time.

* with the exception of the Luke light saber, which I destroyed in battle in 1986 lol and the bicycle which I gave to my little cousins in 1991 I still have all those aforementioned toys. If I wasn’t a lazy S.O.B. I would post pics...but I’m a lazy S.O.B.*

I couldn't believe it when I got one of the walkers for Christmas:

I still feel sort of guilty over having gotten expensive toys as gifts from relatives. That's the way I still feel about it when I see some of my old toys. confused
