what happens if you don't show up for jury duty? I was late. The guy at the counter asked me what happened then told me to call a phone number after 3:00pm to see if they rescheduled me. When I got home there were three phone numbers where he pointed. I called the automatic line which gives instructions but it had the same info for today (show up at 8:30am). It was too late to call the other numbers so now I'm not sure if I should show up or just not show up tomorrow.

It's funny because last year I forgot. I noticed my summons letter AFTER I was scheduled to appear. Then I called and they said I had fulfilled my obligation for the year.
But this time, they actually wanted me to report. I did show up this morning, so I suppose if it came back to haunt me, I could explain it as a misunderstanding.

If you don't show up for Jury Duly selection process, they will put a warrant out for your arrest.

And BTW, if you go to the jury duty selection process in attempting to get out of jury duty, use one of these excuses:
1. It's against your religion. OR 2. You're a little racist. OK, option #2 is extreme. But it works for some people.

If after contacting you and you still refuse to comply, they absolutely will issue a warrant. You can also be charged with contempt if the judge finds reason to believe you are lying while trying to get out of jury duty. Like anything, it depends on the judge conducting the interviews. If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

I think it would be a fascinating way to learn firsthand about the judicial process. I've yet to be summoned though. "A Watcher scoffs at gravity!"

I think it would be a fascinating way to learn firsthand about the judicial process. I've yet to be summoned though. It can be a fascinating process, and extremely draining emotionally. There's a lot of boredom involved no matter what kind of case you're on and you don't get paid enough to cover parking and lunch/dinner, etc. Your employer has to let you serve and give you the time off, but is under no obligation to pay you for it. So, depending on your employer, you usually have to use sick/holiday/vacation time. I was foreman on a murder trail and while it was wonderful to see the inside of the process, it was harrowing to say the least. My trial involved two kids who were accused of murdering another kid. The whole thing was just completely sad. Jurors are not allowed to talk about the trial at any time, even with spouses. You can't watch the news or read the paper. We were sequestered during deliberations and our cell phones were taken away. You become very isolated from your family. On top of all that, it was a gang related killing and threats were made prior to the trial, so the jurors had to be surrounded by deputies at all times once the court was in our hands. And the deliberations... man... that was a nightmare in itself. If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

I simply do not fall into the category of trying to evade my summons so I don't know how they can find me in contempt of the court. I effed up on the first day and I'm not sure what I'm supposed to do. As much as I want to avoid this out of self-interest, if the shoe were on the other foot, I'd want someone like myself to step up and participate on my jury.
