swimmers of the org Swimmers people, not swingers
now that 99 % of GD has gone How do you cope with swimming if you have sinus issues. the chlorine gives me headaches, and when it unblocks my sinuses, its not a pretty sight. i have been told for years to go swimming for my back issues/arthritis, and actually went on Monday I loved floating in the water, but the minute i put my head under the water ...yuck! I could only do a few freestyle strokes before i felt i couldnt breath when i was surfacing for air, nose was blocking just as quick as it was clearing. Any tips? The irony is, i was born under the sign seems that i was busy doing something close to nothing, but different than the day before

I don't have sinuses, so I don't know if it would help a lot, but have you tried nose plugs? When I used to swim more often, I would see several people with them on.
Also, have you considered just doing water aerobics instead? You wouldn't have to put your head under at all. If you will, so will I

will there be pictures of swimmers in this thread? To make a thief, make an owner; to create crime, create laws.

Absolutely. And nothing can be compared to swimming in the sea. It's one of the healthiest things one can do for their body. Water aerobics is a good idea though. I hope you solve your problem, prb

I thought the same thing. I wish I did not have sinuses. It would have saved me from one of my many surgeries and $ on medications....and I would have a lot less headaches.

Wear noseplugs. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

'why y'all trying to say goodbye? I didn't go anywhere, I'm right here, im all around you,always..'
in a line from my dream, I heard a voice and saw a silhouette in a chair..

The other option is to learn to breathe properly. You're supposed to exhale through your nose and mouth while your face is in the water. That will drive any water out of your nose. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

some pools just have way too much chlorine, if you are sensitive - that pool I went to in Tasmania, I didn't even put my head under, the fumes alone closed up my nasal passages. I am also an allergy sufferer like prb, so the littles thing, like cigarette smoke, just closes up already inflamed sinuses

But prb said s/he was fine while floating and only has problems while actually swimming. That suggests to me that it's a breathing issue. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We're lucky in that the pool we go to doesn't seem to use much chlorine (never had a problem with sore eyes and I like to swim lengths underwater to work my lungs). They also have a little salt in there. The thing is, the pool seems really clean too. There's a roof but it's basically open to the elements and even after a night of rain it seems very clean the next day, which is cool.
I love swimming. Will swim again in a few hours. I usually go for an hour and do between 40 and 80 lengths breastroke (1km-2km). I have issues with my knee so it's wonderfully low impact. MY COUSIN WORKS IN A PHARMACY AND SHE SAID THEY ENEMA'D PRANCE INTO OBLIVION WITH FENTONILS!!

Thanks for all the suggestions..i knew the org would deliver
Genesia, ZK is right, our pools here are full of chlorine...just being in the area, not even in the water can give me headaches But yes, i could probably change my breathing technique..might even invest in a few lessons... i want to be able to walk when im older...and im nearly there (older that is ) Swimming is probably the way to go for my conditions. And Charlotte, im sooo not moving to the big island But i might visit one day Fauxie, i get jealous everytime you update your FB status to include a swim...i have to try and work around work/rugrat/husband commitments. Wish me luck seems that i was busy doing something close to nothing, but different than the day before
